Full Version: Analog input from analog ouput

I need to do this temporarily until our PLC network in finished.

I need to pass two temeratures from a SLC 500 to a PLC 5.

Can I use the SLC analog output to drive a PLC 5 analog input?

I already have the two twisted pair wires in place.
I could also use two temperature transmitters to send the analog signal to the PLC 5.

When the PLC network is complete, we will use Ethernet.

Thanks

You should be able to generate a 4-20 ma from an SLC analog and send it to a PLC 5 4-20 ma input. You'll need a current source {ie. 24 VDC Power Supply} in addition to the controllers. Rest should be as you imagine it.

The exact wiring will depend on the current wiring. Are the 5's inputs single ended or differential? The two cards need to have the same 0V.

Edit:
You didn't mention the models, but if there close enough to hard wire, couldn't you run a temporary communication cable instead?
DH+, ethernet , serieal etc .... Something.

A temporary communication cable is not really possible at this time.
The SLC does not have DH+ capability.

The two twisted pairs are already run.

Thanks

how about RS232?
