SLC 5/04 fault blinking (1747-SN)

4 posts in this topic

Hello everyone, I got a SLC 5/04 stack to play around with, its just sitting on my desk with power supply connected to AC. It has the 1747-L542 CPU and 2 of DI, and 2 of DO, 1 AI, and 1 AO, 2 blanks and then 1747-SN module. The flt light keeps blinking and when I go online with PLC it shows "FAULTED" if select "goto error" it says: "Module in slot 9 has a recoverable major error. Refer to the user manual supplied with the specialty module." on 1747-SN the fault led is blinking. There are no wires connected to any terminal. What is causing this and how can I fix it? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thank you

See link for the manual ( Chapter 6) https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=1&cad=rja&uact=8&ved=0ahUKEwjf_6-PuarJAhXPN4gKHZTQBHMQFggeMAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fliterature.rockwellautomation.com%2Fidc%2Fgroups%2Fliterature%2Fdocuments%2Fum%2F1747-um013_-en-p.pdf&usg=AFQjCNGfOhSE91vDHH0EL1swouvshXc5GA If you don't have a remote I/O rack why have the module installed?

Yes, a 1747-SN remote I/O scanner module will fault upon startup if it cannot communicate with the remote I/O it was defined to communicate with. You could try removing the module, then build a new program with just the I/O modules that are present and download this and put into run. Verify your Fault and Comm LED status with page 3-9 of the manual. If Fault ON and Comm OFF, after power up and with the PLC CPU running, this indicates that the scanner does not see any remote I/O (which is in fact the case for you, right?). http://literature.rockwellautomation.com/idc/groups/literature/documents/um/1747-um013_-en-p.pdf
