My company has just installed a new machine with Micrologix 1100 plc, the serial port is being used for the HMI, so therefore I would like to use the ethernet port to communicate with the SLC 5/04 of a nearby machine.

Is this possible?

If the 5/04 serial port can be connected to a ethernet gateway device (Digi One IAP, or A/B 1761-NET-ENI) then the two PLCs can communicate with MSG instructions. Of course they need to be connected to an ethernet network and have compatible IP settings.
