  1. PanelView 1000

I'll need to find a microphone and record a few seconds of it.  It's definately not the humm of a 60Hz.   Thanks for your input Ken.
  2. PanelView 1000

Therefor, it means that it is not deffective?   Is there a battery in the unit?   Thank you.
  3. Hello,   I have a PanelView 1000 (2711-T10C15 ser. D.  It's been stored for a few years now.   The last time I powered it up it was connected to my laptop via the RS 232 port.  I connected it recently unconnected, and now it emits a feeble sound, from what I presume to be, a piezo.  The touch scrren is functional and the screens changes as I remember it to do when buttons are tuched.   Why is it emiting this sound?   Thank you.   Pat.
  4. Quick panel

Hello again. I have a machine that uses a QuickPanel and it seems like the back grond light is not bright enought. I am familiar how to make changes on AB's PanelView when it starts up to acces the paremeters menu. As I write this message I don't the model number at hand. I hand made some search on the net to find some literature but failled. Can any one help me? Thank you.

Glad to hear that the problem is not with the PLC/CPU. So I will need to find the software and study the ladder and the logic in the program. When I call the dealer I should as for Proficy Machine Edition and not Versa Pro. Do you know any dealer in the US that will offer the trial version? I include the link that I found so one can see how it looks like: http://www.orenda-automation.com/product.php?id=6 . I'm the only one who orerates this machine and there is not much else than the touch screen. The veriaty of sensors are limited: a thermocouple, an inductive sensor to indicate that the lid is in place, three capacitive sensors for levels and finally a current transformer for the mill motor current. There I don't see how these can alter the progress of the ladder and the timers. I found this web page: http://www.ge-ip.com/products/2825 unfortunately the downloads don't work. Thanks.

Hello, First I'm more familiar with AB's products than GE. I have a problem that happens once in a while. I begin to wonder if their is not a problem with the CPU. It is a pulveriser for plastic pellets. There are five steps for the start up: Mill, Fan, Air lock, Sifter, and Feed. This is done manually via a Quick Panel and there is, except for the Mill a delay of 20 seconds. The Mill needs about a minutes as it strats the motor in a Y connection and later on switches secondary contactors to be connected as Delta. Once the hopper is filled up it automatically shuts down: Feed, Sifter, Air Lock, Fan and finally the Mill. There is a preset timer for a delay 20 minutes in between each process. This works fine except once in a while where the Mill doesn't. What happens it that due to vibrations of the 125Hp motor some pellets drop into the milling chamber and once the 90 degrees elbow is filled the powder is blown out by an air intake as the main fan is off. We endup having a huge mess every time this happens not to mention the lost of material and money. Doesn't matter the time of year, it can be cold or warm where it is located. Now I wonder why this happens. There is also another problem that happens once in a while: A melt down!!! This means that the whole pulverising chamber gets filled up by the grinded palstic and as it can't be sucked out by the fan because the particules are to heavy it ends up in a sirup (This is because too much material is dropped in the chamber). The grinding process is monitored by a thermocouple (analog input with a signal conditioner) and shurely uses a PID to control the amount of pellets that fall into the grinding chamber(analog output to a SCR relay). There are some values that we can modify in order to obtain the results we wish. Is it possible that there is a problem here too with the CPU? Same thing as for the timer? CPU freeses. I don't have the programming software (the name ofthe software eludes me as I write these words. Versa View?). I have contacted my local GE dealer, as I read on these forum that we can have a limited version for free, just need to reinstall. But my dealer told me that I needed to buy a "Startup kit" (software and a PLC). I told him that this was not what I was being told. But it ended there. Thank you again.
  7. SLC500 CPU

Hello, Hope this will be an easy one. It's quite simple I believe. It has to do with the memory capacity of this line of CPU. The 511, 521, 531, 541, 551 all have the same amount of memory indicated the the last digit. But the second as it increases is a more powerful CPU(and more). Now when we add a memory module a 551 can basically mutate to be a 553 (for example)? Does this mean that the CPU will not see the difference? In the literature (1747-UM-011-en)guide for these CPUs from page 43 there is some explanations on the memories but it is a bit confusing mostly when it comes to the part 'Burning Program on EEPROM'. Now if your 'Burn' the program can you alter it afterwards? Thank you.
  8. MicroLogix 1100

That could do the job. But I wonder....If I make an alteration to the electrical safety device can be an issue with the insurance company should something wrong happened? A flow meter could do also, yet I would need to make some plumbing. I plan to use thermocouples to monitor and control the water temperature and leave the actual thermostat (at 195F) as a safety device. I have that type of control on my electric water heater (there is a sensor a resistor outdoors) for the heat of one part of the duplex. An outdoor thermocouple will monitor the temperature, close to freezing point it maintains the water at about 130F with a few increments warmer as we get closer to 0F to obtain water at 195F. Writing this, you are correct, if the waster has to be heated up and takes too much time to heat up an alarm can be triggered. I have a current monitoring relay with a range of 2-20A but it's internal power supply is set at 220V while the circuit is on a 120V. Thanks.
  9. Hello everyone. I have an uncomplicated project that I want to make complicated. Yup! But let see what you all think of it. I have two small 120V motors that draw about 3 amp max. For that a simple relay with 10 amps contact will do for each one as they don't necessarily work simultaneously. As they are in a remote area it's not always easy to check if all is fine. Basically it is an oil burner and recirculating pump for a small boiler. The burner is protect by a UV sensor, therefore if there is no flame detected it will stop the motor. Easy! Only you find out that there is a problem when the water is cold. In other words: too late. I was wondering if a can use a simple current transformer to feed into the 0-10 VDC(0-32 760) inputs (model: 1763L16-AWA)? As the output is latched for each motors there should be a value in each of respective analog inputs. If a motor doesn't run I can have a alarm and if there should be an overload it too could trigger an alarm. I've read rapidly through the manual: 1763-RM001C-EN-P to look for any notes in the impedance value of the inputs. Nor I have found any details on the ML1100 itself also. Now if this current transformer would work, shouldn't I put a resistor to limit the current? What worries me also is should there be an overload the current drawn by the motor could possibly generate more than 10 VDC. Thank you.

Hello Mickey I simply want to prevent anyone from modifying the functions of the press, in this case is to lock one of the safety switch from being blocked on the ON position and using only the other button to start it. Having a one shot would do the job because both switches have to go again as a 0 in order to reactivate the press. The tips have been useful. I will have to ponder on it and see what can be purchased if I can have a budget. Thanks to you all.
  11. I have a project with a small heated press. There are two buttons to start the press. As it is quite old the buttons are large stainless steel square protected by a funnel like shape. The problem is that one can leave a heavy object resting on one and only use one to start the cycle. I could also look up to find the kind of sensors that detect the presence of a finger and when it does it goes on or sends a signal to an automated systems As I have an unused Pico I was wondering if I could use it for security purpose? Unfortunately these relays don't have the One Shot possibility. I was wondering if I could use a timers with a very brief time to simulate the one shot. This means that both timers would need to be reset to start the cycle again. Each timers would have a dedicated input. As for the cycle it is simple enough, as simple pneumatic actuator activates a mechanism that multiplies it's power to perform a 3 Ton pressure on a die that make a imprint on fabric. The pressure is done only a few seconds and the air is released and the die goes up. That's it. Let see what some of you experts can come up with. Thanks.
  12. Panel View

    Thank you SLCMAN.
  13. Panel View

Different views I should say. This is only a temporary project. I'm seriously thinking of Inductive Automation HMI software (which was recomended to me here for another project). Currently it is slower at work and it is definately not time to start spending so I will simply use what I got. I had purchased the PV550 on Ebay as it was not expensive and I wanted to learn how to make HMIs. Over the week end I should hook up the PV to the SLC and experiment with it. I will keep you posted on my evolution. And by the way, if I recall well, I need a "Straight" RS-232 wire to connect the PV to my lap top? Been years since.... Thank you for your help gentlement.
  14. Panel View

Hello, I have a small project with a SLC L542 and a PV550. On the PV I monitor 3 interger files and have 6 momentary push buttons. Awhile back I had purchased a 550 (2711-B5A1) and it's been strored for many years. I never made any attemtps to learn too much about RIO if not only to think of projects without moving forward. I have read many topics about it though. And yes the publication 1747-UM013B-EN-P. In slot 1 I've installed the 1747-SN RIO scanner card. The PV should be at about 50 to 75 feet away from the PLC. There will definately be no dicret nor analog I/O. I'm also aware about the M0 and M1 files. Throught RSLogix500 I was able to configure the G files. In the PLC the PV is set as the Rack 0 group 0 1/4 rack words 0 + 1. The PV communication is set as: Rack 0, module 0,1, last chassis, baud rate at 230400, SLC 5/04 OS 401, 1747-SN Series A. Because there wont be any physical I/O I'm not too certain on how to set up the M files. A hint should do I believe. The other thing I wish to know is if I can connect my laptop to the RS-232 jack and pass through to the PLC. Let say that I need to make alterations to the programe will RSLinx will be able to connect to the PLC? In this case, which wire do I need to connect to the PV's DF1 port? Thank you.
  15. RAMP and hydrolics

Here we are AGAIN!! Okay, I've tried the suggestion on the post #2 but it doesn't work properly. I also, though it was not encouraged, looked up at the RAMP command in the SLC literature. And I'm skeptical that is would work properly. I took a good moment to analyse the way the actual program for the oven works and I came up with the ladder I uploaded here. In a recipe there is a time we can set up for the oven to stay at the particular stop angle for it to remain in the position. Also at the end of the cook time we never can tell where the oven will be therefore the POSITIVE direction is demanded to a certain angle and then it move back in the opposite direction and stop when a sensor is ON. This is where the "HORIZONTAL" is demanded for the oven to open up. Also if there should be an intrusion or an E-stop or even a short power flash. So it was not too easy to deal with. I did follow some suggestions by using a timer. I ended up using timers. The Bits B3:0.0 and B3:0.1 would replace the current outputs of the tilting subroutine. The outputs are actually two 120 volts solenoid valves. This means that if the add a deceleration time the opposite output will be energized while the oven has not yet halted this explains the EQU=0(O:4.0) on the first two lines. So if you toggle B3:0.0 and wait and toggle B3:0.1 and keep them toggled the output is a -32767 (-10VDC) that is fine. When you toggle again B3:0.0 there will be a deceleration and then the output will then increase to +32767. Then toggle B3:0.1 back to 0 and the output decreases back to 0 and 0 VDC. The valves we will be using will have an input of +/-10 VDC. Having this type of valves will give us an interesting possibly: to vary the speed of the tilting process. This is why there is % possibility. It will be to set values(i.e.:10,20,30....90, 100%). I've set the timer a 10 seconds to let me enough time to see what goes on in the ladder as I interact to simulated real situation we encounter. Once all is in place I'll determine the acceptable value. The current program doesn't have an STI ladder, should it be a good idea to have a separate ladder independent from the rest? There are two major bugs. The first is if you toggle just B3:0.0 and then toggle it again once the timer T4:0 is done the -32767 output jumps to a positive reading. The DC voltmeter jumps from -10 to 10 and slowly reaches 0 volts. I completely started from scratch and made an alteration to the original ladder by multiplying the last value by -1 before it gets moved to the output O:4.0. It didn't solve my problem. The second one is when I toggle, for example B3:0.0 for 5 seconds and toggle it back again. At 5 seconds I'm half way through and read about -16000 with an approximate -5 VDC. What happens is the the timer T4:2 gets energized and it has no hint that the other has not reached the full time. Probably I would need a condition that would MOVE the T4:0.ACC value to replace the T4:2.PRE. Then it would start where the other ended and avoid this "JOLT". Well I hope you gentlemen are not too tired of this topic. Thank you! Tilt-rev1.RSS
