Factorytalk SE HID card login

3 posts in this topic

Hello, we use a door lock access system that uses HID key cards to limit access to portions of our workplace. I would like to extend the access system to our automation system and wonder if it is possibe of if someone here has deployed a system that i am describing. i am sure there are many assumptions that i am not listing here and do not want to muddy the water too early in this thread. but if possible or if you have deployed somthing like this i would love to hear from you.

You might be able to accomplish something like this using FactoryTalk AssetCenter (link). You should be able to use your keycard to log in to Windows (link), then use the current user + AssetCenter to manage PLC access. You could also just use the Windows Group Policies to prevent said user from running RSLogix at all, that's a feature built in to windows. Edit: I just realised you want to use it for FactoryTalk View SE. Yes, that will work as well. Delete any "hard coded" users and set up FactoryTalk View to use Windows users (It's in the manual). Then log in to windows, same as above. Edited by MrAutomation

+1 to the above. I recently deployed a FTView SE project where I got the IT department to define four Windows user groups (SCADAOperator, SCADASupervisor, SCADAMaintenance, SCADAEngineer). Then you add those user groups to your FTView project (not the users, the user groups) and assign permissions based on the groups. Then the IT department can add or remove users access to all levels of the control system any time without having to get you involved - they just add the users to the relevant groups
