Looking for Offshore Drilling Job Oportunnities

Hi all, I'm 25, Electrical Engineer working in controls in the Detroit area. I've got a couple of years experience in Siemens PLCs as well as two years working with Allen Bradley. Recently I haven't been challenged enough at work, and I remember seeing offshore drilling videos during my Siemens training classes. I've also seen specials on shows such as Modern Marvels. The work looks to be both challenging and rewarding, and it would help me fulfill many of my personal life goals such as the opportunity to travel around the world, etc. I've always been highly motivated, graduating near the top of my class, and I feel like I'm settling in my current position. Do any of you know of any offshore drilling companies hiring in electrical engineering/PLC controls, what skills they are looking for, and what I can do to set myself apart from other candidates? Any contact information would also be appreciated

There are many drilling company's out there. Look at RigZone.com and make up resume on rig zone's site. Once you put in your job preferences you can be notified by email of all new jobs that fit your profile. if you are interested in applying for one of these jobs your resume can be sent directly to the company through rig zone. This way you are not constantly filling out a new resume and Job applications. Check out their site, it cost you nothing to look at jobs posted and make a resume, I think they have a service were they charge a fee to keep your resume on top of the pile, but to be honest I got lots of hits and never paid anything. I was looking at going to the oil rigs last year and a few of the company's I was looking at were. Transocean Ensco PLC. Diamond Offshore Hercules There are lots out there and they are hiring, just need to keep bugging them so you get your foot in the door. If you have a Electrical Engineering Degree you will have no problem finding a job in the oil industry. If you are planning to work offshore on a rig there are a few credentials you need to get before you can go out to the rig. HUET = Helicopter evacuation training. (look at HUET training at University of Louisiana Lafayette and you can see what this class is all about, they used to have a video online that you can watch. Some safety courses and some want you to attend there own training courses specific to their company. Some company's will pay for this training for you but if you have these credentials up front it makes your chances of landing a job that much better. Good luck in you job search. BCS
