help with fx2n-20gm

I have just recieved the software (vps-win e) for an fx2n-20gm we have. I tried to upload the program but keep getting com errors (says port not availible) i am using the sc09 cable i was told i needed and know there is no issue with the laptop or cable as i managed to upload the program from plc it is connected to. Any ideas??? Thanks in advance Tim

not familiar with those but are you sure you have selected correct com port? many software packages will default to COM1 but if you need use different port (such as usb to rs232 converter), it has to be selected first. device manager can be used to check what ports are installed on your machine.

I doubt that old software will work with a USB to serial adapter if you are trying to use one.

Thanks for your answers i#m pretty sure the com port and everything is set fine, its an old laptop with a serial port so com1 is right and i managed to communicate with fx2n plc, so i can only assume something wrong with fx2n-20gm(is there a prog mode?) or the sc09 cable is not the right one or i need some form off adaptor, this is my first time dealing with servo drive so am at a bit off a loss Any other ideas???? or is it worth giving the guys at mitsibushi a ring?? I am also not familiar with that module, so don't know if the SC09 is the right cable.

just an update . It seems you get 2 programs on the fx-vps win/e cd and our wonderful IT department installed the wrong one. Its just the joys off working onsite maintenance, they'll let mess with PLC progs which could potentially shut production off but your not allowed to install your own software, how stupid Thanks for all your help anyway
