  2. Ethernet Module Setup - 90-30

Hi Steve, Now that's a lesson in power supplies! Many thanks. Regards, Bill W.
  3. Ethernet Module Setup - 90-30

Hi Steve, Thanks for the info. Our power supply is a IC693PWR321AA. Obviously this is much too old. My question is this.... Will the ethernet module still install? We are only using a single 120 volt input card and a single 120 volt output card so we are nowhere near maxxing out the power supply. The ethernet module is listed as drawing 700mA. The IC693PWR321AA is listed at 30 W. With our minimal output demands (firing LED's) there is plenty left for the ethernet module. Or, does VersaPro prevent it's configuration? Thanks, Bill W. The power supply must be IC693PWR321 rev K or newer, or IC693PWR322 or IC693PWR330.
  4. Ethernet Module Setup - 90-30

Hi, I recently found enough $ to purchase 2 ethernet modules for our 90-30's. They have 311 cpu's in a 5 slot base. These are being used in a college environment for sporadic training purposes. The installation routine seems pretty straight forward; using VersaPro and serial connection. I noticed a limitation on the cpu firmware. Where can I find that information? Also, I noticed that there is no mac address, so I have to infer that the static IP address is programmed into the firmware during installation. One last thing....does anyone have any suggestions regarding protection online ie: firewalling. Any pointers regarding installation would be welcomed. Thanks, Bill W.
  5. 90-30 ethernet module

Hi, I am considering the purchase of the ethernet module that works with the Series 90-30 My google search suggests that the model # is IC693CMM321. Is this correct? Also, is there extra software required beyond VersaPro 2.01? Does anyone have any suggestions or hints about configuring the module once installed? Thanks, Bill W.
  6. can't monitor....logic not equal

Hi, Steve link was spot on. I had to get through the SSO bs but once that was done, there was a document that detailed the issue. It seems that the Micro has a continuing problem with not being able to get 'logic equal'. This is usually a concern when timers are used.......(when do we ever use timers??!!!) You must put an 'always on' contact in any rung and address it to 7s (%S00007). Use an 'examine on' (n.o.) contact anywhere and you can get 'logic equal' again. The contact is, well, always on so there is no effect on your program. Thanks again, Steve Bill W.
  7. can't monitor....logic not equal

Hi Everyone, I have flashed my Series 90 Micro (14 point micro) with the latest appropriate firmware. Using VersaPro 2.01 I have been building some simple circuits that I can load into it to improve my programming skills. I have built a cascading timer circuit that sequentially energizes all 6 outputs . The sequence repeats 10 times then after a 5 second pause the outputs start their sequence again. My problem is with monitoring. No matter how I try, I can't get 'logic equal'. I even 'load from PLC' with all options checked. I figured that would force equality. One interesting thing....as I do that the 'information window' states..... Variable _%I00509 has been created Why would my program be creating this unusual input? (I only have 8 inputs...1i to 8i) Any thoughts? Thanks, Bill W.
  8. versapro updates and firmware updates

Hi, Now that I can communicate with GE plcs with my new laptop I have tried to make some changes on a Series 90 Micro. I 'loaded' from the PLC, made a few changes and when I tried to 'store' to the PLC I got this error .... "Warning Firmware revision 1 is incompatible with VersaPro." and it won't let me continue. I loaded the original program with VersaPro on my old laptop but I think I may have upgraded it. In any case, GE's support site is not very intuitive. Can someone provide a link to upgrade a. the PLC firmware b. VersaPro upgrade (current is 2.01) For the record, the PLC is a model IC693UDR001CP1 Monday, back at work I'll be able to program the 90-30's! Boss will be very happy! Thanks for any pointers you may have.
  9. usb to serial problem solved

Hi everyone, I managed to get the Horner Electric usb to serial cable (HE500USB600A) working under WinXP. I finally thought to look under the 'Ports' branch in the hardware device manager (<start><control panel><system><ports>). Windows had assigned com 9! So under <properties> I changed the port assignment to com1. Voila, communication! I think I might try that ATEN usb to serial cable on Monday....I think it might work, as well. Thanks for all who offered assistance. Bill W.
  10. series 90-30 or series 90 micro

Hi, Thanks for the quick response. That is exactly what I needed. Many thanks, Bill W.
  11. series 90-30 or series 90 micro

Hi, I am trying to determine if it is possible to use a USB port for communication to a 90-30 or 90 micro. I have googled and search gefanuc.com but there doesn't seem to be anything on this at all. My laptop (Dell Inspiron 9100) doen't have any ports that will utilize the RS232/RS422 connection setup. Has anyone found a USB alternative? Does one exist? Thanks, Bill W.
