cp1l-em communication ethernet

7 posts in this topic

hi to begin with i'd like to say that I'm a beginner. I know basics of ladder programming and control but I don't have any serious background and experience in automation. In my PhD project i use PLC cp1l-em with ethernet connection. I'd like to modify the program slightly (which i believe won't be an issue) but I find troubles connecting to PLC. The project does not focus on PLC but the hydraulic press I use is controlled by omron cp1l. I have acces to cx-one in two versions: cx programmer educational 8.0 and cx programmer 9.0 is it possbile to configure that PLC with this software? I see that there is no option for "direct" connection in my soft. MyOmron site says only about cxp 9.4 i't would be great if you could explain what to do to connect CP1L directly to PC. I also read about FINS and checked port config in CXP but the number is correct. best regards Edited by masahiro

The current version is of CXP is 9.5. I suspect 9.4 probably is the first one with support for the CP1L-E series. They haven't been around that long.

If you own legal software, there is an automatic update utility included, and you can register your software and upgrade to the latest version free.

guys, thanks a lot for help. Version 9.4 did everything just fine. It's a pity that you need specified program version to communicate with the PL tho.

The CP1L-EM series did not even exist prior to version 9.4 of CX Programmer. It is not too surprising that the older versions of CX Programmer did not support it. That is why you need to run the automatic update of CX Programmer regularly.

Masahiro, why do you say it's a pain to have a specific version? How do you expect 5 year old software to support a 2 year old device which wasn't around when your software was released. That seems silly. And if you don't like that you will hate AT RSLogix5000. They actually require different versions of software depending on the firmware version of the CPU. So you may need 8 versions of it installed to support all of your controls. Don't know why anybody would buy a product like that.
