  1. It's been a long time and I've forgotten how to do this. Is it a DDE Poke or Pull? Is it just a matter of setting up the topic and data in a cell is then transfered to the PAC using a MACRO?
  2. CompactLogix remote I/O

You can use the compactlogix processor with a gateway module from Prosoft Technology. Your I/O will then need to be SLC, PLC, ControlLogix or Flex I/O. I recommend Flex for cost reasons. The Prosoft 5601-RIO-DFCM A-B Remote I/O Adapter to DF1 Master/Slave connects to the serial port on the processor. You'll need to configure the port for DF1 communication.
  3. Solid copper wire

It's called 'Skin Effect' I learned about in Electronics training in the Corps. The skin effect is the tendency of an alternating electric current (AC) to distribute itself within a conductor so that the current density near the surface of the conductor is greater than that at its core. That is, the electric current tends to flow at the "skin" of the conductor.
  4. ROCKWELL RANT!

Gents, This is going nowhere and fast. From what I see, Rockwell Automation is not......not going to change their support model. In fact the cost went up a significant amount with the August price increase....at least for the low end contracts. Having stated that. If you are unhappy with Rockwell prices use somebody else. Just keep in mind.... the other manufacturers don't have the huge distributor network that Rockwell does. I can only speak for southern California but, we have 18 stocking locations with 8 PLC specialists, 7 Industrial Control Specialists, 5 Motion Specialists, 5 Software Specialists and 4 VFD Specialists.........who don't charge for their technical expertise. (that's in a 5 county area) In my opinion.....shut this thread down. It's turned into a personal attack by very small people.
  5. ROCKWELL RANT!

And gasoline was $1.15 6 years ago. I will say this yet one more time..........Do you give your services away for free? If so call me I have a lot of work for you.......
  6. ROCKWELL RANT!

I don't work for Rockwell but I do work for a Rockwell Distributor. The only reason I have my job is to help customers with PLC, Software and Service issues. My paycheck is derived from selling Rockwell products and services............Contrary to popular belief we don't make obscene profits........unlike the profits some of my OEM customers make. I used to work for an OEM.......we averaged 150% profit on our machines. You're not going to get any pity from me............
  7. ROCKWELL RANT!

Jimmy, Do you give your services away for free? I think not. There are over 160 degreed engineers in the Rockwell Automation Support Call Center. Each one has a cube the size of most CEO's offices loaded with every imagineable drive/Servo/PLC setup you can think of just so they can attempt to duplicate your configuration. Do you think they don't get paid or that the equipment didn't cost anything.......I think not. If you truly are a business person you'll get this concept. Companies like Rockwell get their asking price.......if they didn't they would go out of business. Take a look at their stock price.......I don't think they're going anywhere.
  8. ROCKWELL RANT!

Jimmy, You are obviously new to Allen Bradley Brand products. You're local distributor has a staff of product managers dedicated to helping customers with technical issues. Your local PLC or Automation Products Manager could have helped you. Now I'm not saying they won't eventually expect you to get a TechConnect contract but they can get you out of a jam in the short term. 9. Does anyone know if RSView 32 works on a tablet PC with Tablet XP Pro OS?
  10. GE Charges for 5.5 Upgrade while your in SUPPORT!?!?

I guess that explains the 70% market share Rockwell has. At least where i'm at.........Actually to be perfectly honest the playing field has become pretty flat with regard to PLC's in general. The diffirentiator anymore is how well you are supported by your distributor and the manufacturer.
  11. GE Charges for 5.5 Upgrade while your in SUPPORT!?!?

They can't compete against CLX. I thought about going to work for GE a few years back.....glad I stuck with Rockwell.........
  12. Factory Talk Activation

You are correct on the removable NIC cards such as a wireles USB card being used as a FactoryTalk activation device. As far as using a standard memory stick I'm only going by what the FACTORY has told me. You can hypothesize all day long and it really doesn't matter until you show that you can do it. Having written that.......I'm going to try it. Because it what you suggest is true. It will make my life easier. Honestly I think the reason for so much buzz about this is that you won't be able to make illegal copies of the Master disks anymore. I estimate that I lose 50-60% of my potential Rockwell Software sales to pirates.
  13. Factory Talk Activation

Hi all, I logged onto my Rockwell Software Extranet Account and did a little digging. Standard USB memory dongles WILL NOT work with the FactoryTalk Activiation. The Rockwell USB Dongle is special. The following is an exerpt from a Rockwell FAQ document: Q What hardware devices can be used as Host IDs? A Network card MAC addresses, hard drive serial numbers, and a special USB dongle (9509-USBDONG). A standard USB memory dongle can not be used. The special USB dongle contains only a unique serial number and has no user addressable memory. As I suspected, you have to buy their 'widget'
  14. Factory Talk Activation

That's correct. They have a utility to use the EVRSI/ EVMove activation scheme on a memory card. That feature (EVRSI/ EVMove) is going away with CPR 10.
  15. Factory Talk Activation

Come on guys.......Do you really think they would make it as easy as buying an inexpensive memory stick. I don't know for sure but I would be willing to bet they have put some kind of 'electronic twist' on their dongle so you can't use an off the shelf memory stick. It would be nice if they didn't.
