Logging to Excel

4 posts in this topic

Hi I'm logging a few numbers to Excel, but they are ending up formatted as text... Field is prefixed with ' Number stored as text error... I've tried formatting the cells as a Number. Any suggestions? Thanks, Pp Edited by ParaffinPower

Hi Pp, Excel is a funny old data storage tool and never works quite like a database. Data formating is always a funny one. Am I right you're using CX-Supervisor's inbuilt logging facility, and linking it to Excel with the Database connection link? I'm not exactly sure but in the absense of any comments from anyone else... a couple things to try that might help : - When you set the cells to Number, make sure you select the WHOLE column (yes including the header!). I know that ADO struggles with Excel cells to 'guess' the data format based on existing cells - Double check that the point used in the database Field Association is a Integer Point. - double check that the data logging "Field Link" is set to Integer data type. Any help? Bertie B.

I don't know if there is a way to fix it from CX-Supervisor but you could do a work around in Excel. Try storing your data in a separate cell then using =VALUE(your separate cell).

Hi Berti and IO_Rack Thanks for the replies. Good suggestion, IO_Rack. If I can fathom the VBScript to achieve this, I'll give it a whirl... I'd really like to store the data as an INT, but failing that, I have some stuff to work with here Cheers all Pp
