Q01 CPU ordering questions

6 posts in this topic

I have a machine with a Q01CPU and want to order one online as a backup from a surplus vendor. I've looked through a couple of owners manuals and seen an example of the sticker on the side of the CPU. The model number is just Q01CPU and a serial number. No detailed order or part number I can find. Is this as simple as it is? One Q01CPU is same as another except for possibly firmware revisions? What do I need to consider before buying one as an exact backup? Are firmware revisions done through GX IEC developer or another utility? ThankS!

Hi BJR, 1) The order number (article) for Q01CPU is 138324. 2) The programming software does not allow to download a firmware to CPU, other utilities does not exist and a CPU firmware is unavailable for customers too. 3) The information about differences in firmware versions related to CPU serial numbers is published and availavle from manuals and supplementary sheets. Usually, if a CPU module get the firmware update, its order number is changed accordinly. I gave you the last order number, which is actual.

Inntele, Thank you for the help. Once I got an answer about if there was more than one version of hardware to order I was thinking ahead about any other surprises I could find. I just went through a project last month with Allen Bradley and had not done anything with them for a few years. I was amazed at how many different firmware versions all of the software and hardware was in and how I had to upgrade my software twice and re-flash the HMI to get everything compatible between PLC, HMI and laptop. Thank you for letting me know how Mitsubishi does their hardware.

Inntele he's in the US and those European article numbers mean nothing. Q01CPU is the entire part number. But keep in mind that they have released newer CPUs in the family, and it might be wise to migrate to a Q01UCPU, or even a larger CPU with Ethernet depending on your needs.

I am in the US but my equipment came from a European plant of ours that shut down. It is one of our newer pieces of equipment even though you noticed it's age so it won't get any money thrown into upgrades unless it totally fails. That's partially why I was afraid of ordering a spare CPU for the machine because I was a little worried about the relative age between what I have and buying something old NIB or even on the used market.

So, BJR, I agree with Crossbow and the suggestion is to purchase a new Q01UCPU instead of old Q01CPU even as spare part. The new release is profitable: it's a bit cheaper than old, has an USB as a bonus and will work in your equipment the same like the old one. In EU its article is 221577.
