S7-200 connecting via EM241 module

3 posts in this topic

I friend of my bought a machine on a auction with a siemens S7-200 PLC with an EM241 module. We don't have any drawings or PLC program. Now I am trying to connect via the EM241 module. I have connected a 56k modem to my serial port on de desktop. How can I connect to de CPU via the EM241 and a 56K modem? We use microwin, but if is it's necessarily i can use the Simatic S7 software. Do we need a phone number or is there a way to reset the communication to default? When I try to connect microwin say's there is no dialling tone. I hope someone has an answer, because the macine is Turkisch, and we don't understand waht to do to run it. Erik.

The modem module is used to remotely access via phone lines, you can't just connect a modem to the modem with a phone cord. It needs to be connected via the phone line and dial a phone number to connect. That's why it says no dial tone. A common application for these modems was to dial into a remote server and send data serially, or for remote access for programming. I used one years ago to send a text message to a cell phone on an alarm condition. And you can only use Microwin to program this device, Simatic S7 cannot talk to S7-200. If all you are trying to do is program this device locally, you need a PPI cable to go to the serial port on the CPU.

Ok, thank you for your answer. When I understand it wright, it is not possible to program via the EM241 module? And it's also not impossible to teset the phonenummer that's confugured in the module. Ok. Than we have to find a PPI cable. But then it's also not possible to go online in the program, because port 0 is also used bij the panel. Gr. Erik
