Thanks for all the info, and the write-up was awesome! I was able to get someone at Fanuc who was very helpful and knowledgeable to deal with my remaining questions. Thanks for all the help, John.

Thanks, that what i ws looking for. I assumed the post was moved, since I couldn't find it where I left it.

Hi, I have been tasked with getting prepared to do a job backup of some Fanuc Robots. I have asked what flavor of controller I will be using, and it is unknown. does anyone here know if it is as simple as a Motoman, i.e. the flash card, and copy from the pendant, or do I need to use specific programming software, connect via rs-232/whatever, and pull out a copy of the jobs/variables/etc. ? Thanks, John.

I don't want to dose automatically, I'm mainly looking for measurements so i can trend the data myself, and dose accordingly. John.

Thanks, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. I've seen Omega stuff around, I don't know why I didn't think of them myself. I've thought about the Automation Direct, and is probably what I'll use. Thanks again! John.

Hi, I just purchased an A1S cpu and io rack, and am looking for sources to find sensors for water quality. if anyone can direct me to where I could find either analog sensors, or 'smart' sensors with user defined setpoints for alkalinity/ph, calcium concentration, ammonia, nitrates/nitrites, etc. I would appreciate it. Or any other info for sourcing unusual sensors. I figure the rack will handle the timers for the lighting system, and tidal pumps quite nicely. I figure the cpu has plenty of leftover processor to handle simple monitoring. any ideas for cheap hmi's for displaying values? I have looked at an automation direct unit with a serial/power interface added on, that looks like a retail of around $180 USD, are there better solutions for the budget minded user such as myself? the rack w/ cpu and io cards was $100 so I'm trying to find a reasonably priced solution Thanks, John.

for our stainless steel fabrications we typically drill a 1/4" hole 9/16" from the center of the pushbutton location. when the 30.5 mm hole is knocked out, it leaves a nice half moon shape for the notch. we have had trouble with breaking the greenlee notchers on stainless. we also have found that pencil is like kryptonite to stainless. you can't scrub off the marks very well. I've been told by a chemist friend of mine that the carbon in the graphite likes to bond with the stainless, making it nigh impossible to remove. we've found that "sharpies" are the best for us for stainless.

Supplies for the Common Controls Engineer?

Can't always help it, sometimes you just gotta keep your head down, and get in and right back out. I did a job in NJ several years ago, it involved putting several hundred people out of work across 3 local unions. Teamsters, and 2 local Glass and Pottery unions. (I have no idea why there were 2 locals in the same plant) these guys didn't understand that if this project didn't go down, the plant was probably going to close I find a smile, and firm handshake are two of the best tools to have with me at a customer site. anything else can be acquired elsewhere if needed. John.
