  1. Hi, The specification regarding no. of tags for HMI software of different manufacturers is really confusing. For example, if I have around 1200 DI DO and 200 AI AO connected over Remote IO nodes , what is the no. of tags we would need for an HMI software for different PLC makes: Allen Bradley RS View32 Works, Siemens WinCC. Cimplicity, Vijeo Citect given that the basis of this count is dfifferent for diferent makes. Urgent reply would be appreciated Thanx
  2. Hi Can anyone please give me a simplified circuit diagram for a zero speed sensor which uses a Namur proximity sensor to count pulses. I want the circuit diagram for the controller part which can drive the namur sensor and count the time between pulses from proximity to indicate fall in speed. It would be further helpful if the speed setting can be adjusted. Output can be a semiconductor switch. Otherwise can you please suggest a useful site where I can get these details. I know this is a very simplistic query but I need to start from scratch and develop the same and then get it certified through certification agency for one of our application.
  3. Intrinsically Safe Remote I/O modules

We want to know if Siemens have Instrinsically Safe Remote I/O modules which we want to use for an underground mine application. The remote I/O nodes to be placed in flame proof enclosures will be networked to a surface PLC for monitoring of conveyor parameters. Please let us know if any such item is available in Siemens Family of PLCs. Who are the other reputed PLC manufacturers (ABB/ Schneider/GE Fanuc) who have I/Os for this kind of application. We know that AB has the Flex-Ex range of I/Os.
  4. Suitability of a PLC

Hi, In one of our automation projects for underground coal mine conveyors, we want to design a PLC based system. The system will comprise of three nodes, preferably all PLCs with all nodes interconnected through fibre-optic cable to surface HMI. I need to know the following things. Does any of the PLC suppliers manufacture intrisically safe modules (Processor as well as I/O) that we can use for the application. Who are the manufacturers? We would prefer stand alone controls and therefore want to opt for individual PLCs for each conveyor in place of RIO networked with a surface PLC. Secondaly, in case above is not available, can we use the ordinary PLC inside the mine by putting it in a flame proof enclosure? What are the hazards in this case? What are the design aspects we need to think of.
  5. I have to display integer data only. Is there a method to program a PLC Do channel to output an integer data through a train of pulses like in serial communication. That will greatly reduce my I/O count. I dont want to make the meter a separate node on the network as the network already has several PLC and Remote I/O nodes at various places.
  6. I have to display certain shop data on 4 digital display meters. If I used BDC meters and use the conventional output method i.e. 4 Digital outputs per digit, I will require a huge number of outputs. Is a there a way by which using a single digital output per meter, I may send the data to the meter.
