Flow Meters for Petrochemical

6 posts in this topic

Anybody have any recommendations for flow meters for a petro-chemical application? 1.5" diameter steel pipe, and a variety of oil and synthetic lubricants. Thanks, Jeremy

Hi Jeremy, As far as type of the meter i would go with coriolis type, from brands like Krohne, Micro Motion, or Red Seal.

Any thoughts about pulses versus analog for transmitting to the PLC? I'll be batching fairly small amounts (4-5 gallons).

Hi Ross, For batching go with pulse, it's dirrect measurement. This method will be as precice as your meter. You can use 4-20mA to show flow ratre, temp, density.

That's what my vendor is telling me too. I have a colleague that has had bad luck with the pulse outputs though. I was with him on a job where the pulse output failed right out of the box, and we ended up just using the analog.

Look at EasTech Flow Controls. A company I helped put a independent Skid into is using a pair of them for industrial waste tracking/reporting. The most I have to do with the flow meters (they've been installed for years) is extract the totalized flow and display it on the HMI and send it out in an email.
