I have a SLC5/03 and a Control Logix Ssytem an I want to exchange 1 piece of info. (process data) My questions is: Is it better to go RS232 between them (15-25 ft) or use an analog out on the SLC5/03 to an analog in on the control logix. Is their any real benefits besides cost and easier programming going the way of the analog solution. If I go RS232 i need to get a card my DH 485 and RS232 on the SLC5/03 are used.

Do you alaready have an analog card wtih spare I/O points on each already? If you do then thats the way to go. You will still have to wire up to the analog cards. If you are going to add the analog cards, that can be expensive $1200.00 each. I beleive.

I would suggest networking them. That way when the "man" comes to you tomorrow and wants more than the one piece of info you will be able to easily provide it without any hardware costs.
