Slc 5/01 Pgm In 5/04

3 posts in this topic

Hi all, We have a vendor who normally offers GE/Fanuc PLC's on thier equipment. Our plant has adopted Allen-Bradley as the preferred PLC Brand. The vendor used to use AB 5/01's in the equipment, and has agreed to us a 5/04 in the machine we are purchasing. The question is can the program they have, which was written for a 5/01 be used in a 5/04 without making any changes? I personally do not see any problems, but our management is skittish. thanks, Ken

The only item I can think of that could possibly run differently would be logic that relies on scan counts for timing. The SLC-5/04 runs about 4x faster than the SLC-5/01. Otherwise, there are no instructions or features in the SLC-5/01 that are not in the SLC-5/04. It's a very low-risk change.

Note: The SLC-5/01 has a DH485 port, the SLC-5/04 has a DH+ port and a Serial port. Hence when changing from a SLC-5/01 to a SLC-5/04, all other devices on the equipment must connect via DH+ or Serial.
