Cognex Dataman 260 Series - Sysmac Studio

7 posts in this topic

Good morning,

My name is Preston. I am a Controls Specialist who primarily deals with AB and Siemens projects. I am so incredibly ignorant when it comes to Sysmac Studio.

I'm glad to join a knowledgeable forum in which I have used many times without actually signing up. But here I am, ready to continue my education and hopefully give knowledge back.

Issue:

  • I am working with an Omron NJ501-1300 PLC. I am integrating a Cognex Dataman 262 (part of the 260 series). I am getting very lost on how to add the Cognex as a Target Device. I understand what is needed for Variables and Tag Sets. However I am not able to add the Cognex Dataman as a target device in Sysmac.

Any and all help would be incredibly helpful. Thank You!

Can you attach the EDS file for it?  I looked online and apparently you have to install their configuration tool to get it.  I don't want to do that. I can provide an example once I have the eds file.

I did get my Target Device Selected for the Dataman 260. I was unaware I was missing the correct EDS files from the Omron folder.

Now I am just trying to input my originator variable. It is blank and gives no options.

Looks like my Byte Size doesn't match up. This is why I can't view my tags.

First, add your device to the connection tab (as it looks like you have done, adding here for the benefit of others).  Note that you can see the available target assemblies by putting your cursor in the Target variable field and hitting CTRL+Space and you will see the options available.  Choose 11 (only option for input) and 21 (Only option for output).  The size of each assembly will then be shown.

Next, go to your global variables in the project and create variables that are the correct size for each assembly.  Make sure to choose Network Publish input and output as appropriate for each variable.

Next, go back to the EtherNet/IP settings and choose the Tag Set window.  Click on the Registration All button as shown below:

Make sure the variables that you intend to use are checked and then press Register as shown below:

Choose the appropriate variables for each connection as shown below:

This is now ready to be downloaded.  Do this from the EtherNet/IP window or through the Transfer to the NJ or Synchronize process.  Note that if you do it through the Transfer to NJ or Synchronize process that you need to uncheck the box shown below as the EtherNet/IP settings are NOT transferred by default using these methods:
