ML1100 Compatible I/O Cards

I have a Micrologix 1100 120vac. The PLC has 3 cards that are 1762-OX6I. I want add another card that will accommodate inputs, unfortunately there are more than 8 so the 1762-IA8 will not work. I understand that I can only have a max of 4 expansion cards. I was wondering if it would work to use a 1762-IQ16 with separated 24V power to the card? The inputs going to the card would step down from 120VAC to 24VDC. Will the PLC detect the new card in the ribbon cable? Are there any issues that I may run into? The site does not want to upgrade their PLC (it was already suggested).

Make sure that you add it to your I/O Configuration on the left pane of RsLogix.  Beyond that you should be good.

That ribbon cable only carries the low-level signals for the data transfer, so you can happily have a 24V DC module next to a 120V AC module.

Once you add the 1762-IQ16 to your I/O configuration and download the new program, it will work.    No sweat.

That is good to hear. I am deploying it on a site next week, and began to doubt that it would work.
