Studio5000 crashes if i create a device shortcut

12 posts in this topic

I have just installed Studio5000 (factoryTalk View Studion of Machine Edition 8.20.00 (Release Number 8.20.00 (CPR 9 SR 8)) on a Windows 7 Home Premium PC (8BG RAM, 64bit).
Also installed CCW V10.01.00 Standard Edition.
I am connected by ethernet to a PanelView Plus 600 and a Micro820.
I can communicate and download to both correctly, but i cant add an alias to Studio5000.

If I create a new project and try to create a runtime application it builds ok.

If I then add a device shortcut in RSLinx Enterprise - Communication Setup  (without using or accessing anything - it is still just the new project).  Studio5000 crashes when I try to create a runtime application.
It freezes after building the graphics elements and then has to be terminated.
If i try to restart the application it cant initialise the Rockwell Tag Server service.
I have to reboot.
I cant create a new project and overwrite an existing one without getting the same crash.
If i create a new project with a new name it will create a runtime application ok.
If i then add a device shortcut in RSLinx Enterprise - Communication Setup  (without adding anything on the displays) and it will no longer create a runtime application.

Has anyone else seen this?  Is there a way around this?

Steve

Studio 5000 is supported on Windows 7 Pro.  So you need to upgrade the operating system.  Yes, some may say they have it working on Home but there are no guarantees.

That would be my bet.  But, do you have Service Pack 1 installed?

I have moved everything back to a Windows 10 Pro system that I started on.

I was told that I couldn't use Windows 10 but now that I have checked the specs - I can use any pro OS.

Exactly the same.  It crashes at the end of the graphics steps.

:(

This is what the stalled create looks like: Capture1.PNG

This is the system dialog that appears after the create stops: Capture2.PNG

That answer is not available - 'Locked' answer-The answer may be in a review cycle, you may not have a TechConnect contract or be linked to your contract (see answer 898272).

Do you have any idea what it was?

Thanks Armadillo.

I tried that - but no change.

This is the log from the Factory Talk Diagnostic Viewer

I will contact Rockwell directly.

I am still waiting for Rockwell Tech Support to call me back.

In the mean time I have changed back to the previous version of FactoryTalk View Studio (Release 8.10.00).

It does exactly the same thing.

The problem was a corruption in the FactoryTalk View MS SQL Server Instance.

I could connect to the DB, but not do any operations on it.

I had to remove all instances on SQL Server (databases for other apps) and then remove SQL Server itself (in order to remove the non-functioning database), then reinstall everything.
