NJ/NX with multiple NA HMIs

Does anyone know if there is a hard limit to the number of NA HMIs that can be connected to a single NJ/NX CPU?

You will hit the Soft limit before you hit the Hard limit. The NJ port has 32 TCP connections, so the hard limit is at least that. But the comms will start to struggle well before that. It depends entirely on your application- how many tags, how many alarms (as they're always communicated), how many trends (also communicated), and their update rates. Also the NJ cycle time and Service percentage will affect how much comms can be done.

Only option is to test it as a system to make sure.

Thank you for the quick reply.

I was finally able to get an answer from Omron and it does appear that the NX will be better suited for multiple NA HMIs than the NJ.  It seems the response time of the NA connected to the NJ is affected by the task execution time ratio, the primary task period, and the number of NA units.  The response time of the NA connected to the NX is only affected by the number of NA units.

You could also use the NX1P processor family if it meets your control needs.  The NX1P has a dual core processor and comms can be handled by one of them.
