Rockwell BootP DHCP Tool

14 posts in this topic

Hi all,

Having issues with the above.

It's seeing items MAC addresses, allows me to set required IP addresses but then will not let me service a disable dhcp command.

It's the newest version I think (V3.01.00)

Running on win 7 if that makes a difference.

Not a huge issue as all I've been doing is using an older version on a different VM to set IP addresses. More an inconvenience. Just wondering if people have had similar issues, googling this version hasn't shed any light on the issue.

Hi Paul,

I have come across this a number of times in the past. Often just doing it multiple times it will suddenly spring to life and work. Other times using a different laptop does the trick.

The best method I use now is when the MAC ID appears in the list and I create the relation to the IP address dont disable boot P but it should now appear as a device in RSLinx as the IP is temporarily commited.

Right click on the processor and select Module Configuration. The use the Port tab and select static ID there and put in your details.

Hope this helps pal

Dan

Hi Dan,

I've done it that way round in the past too.

Just a pain as I never had any issues with older versions. Seems someone at Rockwell likes introducing bugs.

Never really got to the bottom of what it is to be honest but I have come across it for several years.

When it works its a great tool, when it doesnt it is really frustrating.

Still could be worse, it could be Siemens !

The new TIA V14 isn't all that bad, the SCADA/HMI package I find far more intuitive to use than rockwells ME/SE

Every time our IT group upgrades the network (and subsequently makes changes to our laptops to work with it), BOOTP gets less and less reliable.  The least unreliable way I've found is to use a virtual machine with a USB network adapter connected directly to the VM and NO other network connections (NAT, Bridged, host-only, etc.) connected at all.  That seems to work ok.  Most of the time.  Usually.

I've found the USB ports on the newer processors to be a god send.

Shame they don't have similar on the remote I/O header modules yet.

I agree but keep this in mind, until the firmware is flashed in a brand new L7x or L8x PAC, the USB port on that PAC will not function.

I use Phoenix Contact IPScanner for all my AB BootP stuff, because BootP sucks!

I have a coworker that swears by Bosch BootP.

Did I happen to mention AB BootP sucks?

Hmmm, I did one the other week straight from the USB.

New project to download and test, firmware was updated over the USB.

I ran into this twice a couple of weeks ago. I'm going to reset one to out-of-box condition and check again.

The only problem I've had with BootP is when I forget to set the network settings in the software and PC to match the network settings I plan to send to the PLC. Generally speaking, it just works. I'd rather flash over ethernet than USB...

Do you have links to the Phoenix and Bosch software?

I've not used the Phoenix or Bosch but I would also recommend Keyence IP Setting Tool. I've had great success using it.

Here is a link. You may have to register.
