Wiring Absolute Encoder to Omron CJ2 PLC

5 posts in this topic

Hello All,

We have a TRD-NA  10 Bit Abosolute Encoder with a resolution of 1024.

How do I hook this absolute Encoder to Omron CJ2 Series PLC to get a position????  Do I need a specific Card?

Here's wiring scheme for TRD-NA

Blue - 0V

Brown - 12/24 V

Black - Bit 0

Red - Bit 1

Orange - Bit 2

Yellow  - Bit 3

Green - Bit 4

Purple - Bit 5

Gray - Bit 6

White - Bit 7

Black/White - Bit 8

Red/White - Bit 9

Shield - GND

The CJ2 Series primarily support incremental encoder signals.

The only absolute encoder supported is for the CJ2 is an SSI type using the CJ1W-CTS21-E expansion card.

You would use a standard DC Input card and monitor the position as a CIO word...

I agree with Jay.  If I am looking at the right encoder, it is a Gray Code encoder.  A standard input module would allow you to bring each input into the PLC and then you could use the GRAY_BIN instruction to convert from Gray code to Binary (integer) format.
