Posted 25 Nov 2015 Hi all, Quick question about adding ENET modules to a plc. If I have a local network of a HMI, PLC and 1 device all on IP 192.168.255.x and I have another device across the plant with an address of 171.27.19.x, can I add that one device to the PLC and it will recognize it? Is there a way to add a device with a totally different IP address to a PLC that is already set up?
Posted 25 Nov 2015 You can add a managed Ethernet switch that supports NAT (Network Address Translation), or add a NAT device (1783-NATR). Depending on the PLC models, you may be able to add a 2nd Ethernet module to one of the PLCs, configured to talk to that other network. NAT is simply a switch with somewhat of an internal spreadsheet that takes address 1.2.3.4 and maps it to 5.6.7.8 and vice-versa. http://ab.rockwellautomation.com/Networks-and-Communications/Network-Address-Translation-Device
