Compactlogix CF card

2 posts in this topic

Can anyone tell me if its possible to modify a program, load it on to a CF card then send someone to site to swap the existing card for the new one. The processor is set to read the card on boot-up already. If it can be done what needs to get loaded onto the card? Thanks in advance

What's loaded onto the CF card when you perform a "Store to Nonvolatile Memory" action is a binary image of the runtime firmware and the user program. This has to be created by a controller; it cannot be created from scratch using RSLogix 5000. So you need to have the same model of controller in your shop to do the Download and the Store to CF steps to create that image file. There's a small XML file that also goes on the card that determines what the controller does with that image at startup. You have the option to set that for "load always" or "manual load" or "load on memory fault" when you perform the Store to CF step. The controller you use to create the file needs to be the *exact same model*. For example, a 1769-L32E cannot create an image that will be readable by a 1769-L35E. Once those files are created, they can be copied or backed up using ordinary PC file management tools. It's just the creation process that requires a controller.
