Connecting Hirshmann Spider 5 TX to Cisco switch

2 posts in this topic

We're trying to connect a Cisco 2960 to the Hirschmann Spider 5 TX to allow engineers to access their network from the company network. The engineer network at 192.168.34.x is a sub-interface of the main Cisco router(2921) with acl's that allow engineers' IPs only to have access. Fiber runs from the router to the IDF closet that houses the Cisco 2960 switch. One port on the Cisco switch was assigned to the engineer vlan which is then cabled to the Hirschmann Spider. Is there something about a Spider that doesn't allow tarversing from a Cisco device? Thanks for any assistance.

SPIDER 5TX is just a simple (although industrial) unmanaged switch. It does feature auto-negotiation, so if anything connected to it does not have auto-negotiation turned on, there will be be a duplex mismatch and perhaps rate as well. Once this is sorted, I'd try to get short connections proven (divide and conquer) rather than the full end to end connection. Does it work if you plug in directly to where you have the SPIDER connected?
