just figured, should be ok since both requires same type of cable ie 1761-cbl-pm02 (serial 9 pin d shell - connection to pc/panelview to 8 pin mini DIN - for connection to micrologix). correct me if I am wrong pls... confirmation appreciated.

I believe you'll need at least a null-modem.

Bernie is correct. You can add a null modem adapter to your 1761-cbl-pm02 to get comms working.

thanks all. thought all i need was the 1761-cbl-pm02 cable as didn't see it being mentioned in any AB manual as yet (requirement for null modem adaptor). since we are at it, does anyone know what the ends of the 1761-cbl-pm02 is? understand that its rs232and mini din but is it male or female type at each end? cannot see/understand from the pinout pictures provided in the AB manual. thanks again.

To connect to the PC, yes that cable is all you need. I think to connect directly to a Panelview Plus, you need to add the null modem, but I have only done this once and I might be remembering wrong.

Just to clarify we are talking about two cables. You program the Micrologix with the 1761-CBL-PM02. You communicate between a Micrologix and a PV with a 2711-NC21. Pins 8 and 7 are also crossed between these two cables but I think the null modems 2 to 3 and 3 to 2 does work
