ASCII data logger

2 posts in this topic

I have an application that requires the storage af ASCII data for later analysis off-site. I am trying to find a device that will recieve ASCII data over an RS232 link and store it unchanged. I could use a PC but this seems like overkill. The data will be unloaded from the device at regular intervals using a PC if required. The storage media is not important, I estimate that the storage capacity will need to be in the order of a few kilobytes only. Does anybody know of such a device?

Guest_s.valentine: Please register at MrPLC.com and join the MRPLC.com community Register at MrPLC.com Why not use a small PLC? Must of today's small PLCs have simple Receive functions which can store your ASCII data in Data Registers which can be retreived later with standard software. If the data needs to be portable, use a PLC which employs Compact Flash Memory Cards so that you can remove the card while leaving the PLC in place, (i.e., Omron CJ1M-CPU11.)
