Used PLC needed

17 posts in this topic

Do anybody know where can I buy used PLC in Greater Toronto, preferably SLC500 with warranty. I’m interested only in hardware: modular PLC with at list 1 input and output board and Interface cable. Thanks a lot, Dan

You could try eBay or PLCCenter.com.

You're going to have some trouble finding a "used" controller with a warranty; the warranty is only 1 year and most SLC-500's end up being in use for 7-10 years.

I checked PLCCenter.com but is very expensive. Used-plc.com is much better but still expensive. I am planning to use it for training. Any idea what other AB PLC should I consider? Thanks, Dan

What about just a MicroLogix? I bought one on ebay myself for $89.00 I would not worry about warranty. Unless you hook it up wrong in the last TEN YEARS of automation, I have never seen a DOA AB PLC...let alone worry about warranty... I use my micrologix 1000 for Halloween F/X displays at my house. This year I had over 450 trick or treaters...it was quite kewl...

450??? I usually get really exhausted after some 80-100. I'd probably turn it off after 150 or let kids handle it... Edited by panic mode

Chakorules, thanks a lot for advice. How did you get PLC for $89? Everything what I am seeing is much more expensive. Any advice on bidind? Do you have any idea how much will cost SLC 5/04 with 1 DC Input and Output on eBay? Thanks again, Dan

I bought 9 SLC5/03's and an assortment of Input and Output modules on eBay for less than $4k. They are being used for training at a company training center. Good Stuff on eBay if you search....

Kind of TV commerical sounding to me...but since the post was about purchasing a PLC with a "warranty", I'll let it slide. PLC Center is a good source to get PLCs. You can also try Tek Supply. http://www.mrplc.com/sites/moreinfo.cgi?140 Check out PLC Center reviews here: http://www.mrplc.com/sites/moreinfo.cgi?105

My recommendation is Sterling Services in North Carolina. Go to www.sterlingservices.com and get the phone number. I usually deal with a guy there named Jon Frankle. They put a LIFETIME warranty on their USED or REPAIRED products! I get all my older PLC parts or products I'm not a distributor for from them. If all you're doing is teaching, a SLC500 (not modular) or a MicroLogix should be enough. I personally used SLC503 with 1 input, 1 output, 1 analog input, 1 analog output card. That's my standard PLC for training classes. Have same setups for Modicon, Mitsubishi, Siemens.
