0-5v to 4-20mA?

hi im investigating the methods used for converting 0-5 volts to 4- 20 mA. each plc prob has it specific method or peripherals for achieving this but does anyone know of a standard trick of the trade or simple product that can be used in achieving this. any help appreciated justwhy2003

You could use a 250 ohm resistor of the correct wattage to convert 0-5 VDC to 0-20mA. I've done this on many analog signals with good results. You can also use it to convert 4-20mA to 1-5VDC. Proof Ohms Law: V = I R V / R = I 5 / 250 = 0.020
