Purchasing a learner PLC setup

7 posts in this topic

I'm thinking about buying a PLC and hooking up some toggle switches to the inputs and LED's to the outputs and just playing with it at home to see if I can learn how to program them...just use the toggles to simulate sensors and the LED's to simulate relay outputs. What would be a good cheap unit to buy as a leaner?

Have you worked with Logixpro simulator? http://www.thelearningpit.com/lp/logixpro.html For the price I think this is a must have. As for plc's to use, I bought a DL06 (automation direct) to play with and have learned a lot with it. The price was right (199.00). The software is free as long as you stay under a certain size (100 words I think). Bob

How about buying a 10-point Micrologix, buying the serial cable from MrPLC.com, and downloading the free version of RSLogix?

They are a great deal but you will have to purchase RsLogix 500 and Panelbuilder to use them. You have to watch out for this with Ebay
