Square Wave Problem With Micrologix
seabiscuit101 posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello all, this is my first post. I am using an AB Micrologix 1400 (1766-L32BXB Ser C FW 21). I was trying to generate a pulse train using the PTO instruction. I have modified PTOX funct. file. The ladder is just a simple XIO followed by PTO, (The Quick Start ladder from 1766-RM001). When I looked at the output waveform on my oscilloscope, I noticed that it wasn't a square wave. I decided to run it at several different frequencies to see how the wave form would change. At 10Hz i got a square wave. As I increased the frequency the falling edge became sloped and almost horizontal. Is this how the output should behave? The data sheet indicates a max frequency of 100kHz, but at frequencies over 150 Hz. The wave form looks like the output of SMPS.- 3 replies

Hi guys, since this is a forum for people starting out with TIA Portal, I would like to share with you my course that I developed for the last 6 months. This course uses a real-life sample application and translates it into a fully functional TIA Portal PLC application. This course of 2,5 hours consists mainly of video explanations with practical programming assignments to put your newly gained knowledge straight to work. As a controls engineer, I have over 10 years of hands-on experience with TIA Portal ranging from software development, commissioning and troubleshooting. At the end of this course, you´ll be able to: Structure and program a real-life user application in TIA Portal Download and Troubleshoot a TIA PLC application Program function blocks (FB) using ladder logic Build global data structures using user-defined-data-types (UDT) and data blocks (DB) With the coupon link below, you can enrol for only $12.99 (might vary depending on the country you live in). The course is normally $99.99, so you get an amazing all-round programming package for almost no money. So go and check it out Take me to the Course Now!- 2 replies

I am trying to build something (not for discussion) which involves using 50+ NTC resistors using a PLC to measure and do some other stuff. My question is, does anybody have an idea of how to deal with the high amount of individual NTC resistors? Of course, they need to be amplified and measured by the PLC directly or a device in between which converts it to digital. I have absolutely no idea in what way to connect the resistors to the PLC, does anybody have ideas? Let me know!

Generating UDT Templates from Excel
ottomation posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Does anyone have any tips or tricks for generating UDT Templates from an excel spreadsheet? It says in the help files you can copy/paste from excel into the UDT Template, but it seems to only allow that cell by cell, instead of the whole table of data. This is painfully tedious when building larger interfaces. I've tried saving the spreadsheet in various formats (CSV, PRN, tab delimted txt) and I've tried various versions of RSLogix from 23 to 31. I can't seem to find any detailed info on how to do this. I've seen some other forum posts regarding using scripting to generate the XML to import the UDT, but I don't understand why I can't simply copy and paste the info in. Is this really that difficult? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Otto- 5 replies

Modicon Send 'CTRL' Keystroke
MusicalComa posted a topic in Modicon / Telemecanique / Schneider Electric
I have a Modicon NOM0200 unit connected to an access switch to send commands to various rs-232 devices. The Access switch requires a "disconnect string" to end communication with a particular port. The disconnect string is "CRTL+D", how can I send a "CRTL" keystroke from the NOM0200 unit? I know for carriage return it is "$R" is their a similar combination I can enter for "CTRL"?-

There have been many good discussions on the applicability of cloud-based solutions for manufacturing and process control systems. On one side, some people have concerns regarding security and control of the information, on the other side, there are identified benefits enabled by cloud systems. From VMS minicomputers to DOS and Windows, from ArcNet to Ethernet, it is inevitable the industrial automation systems shall adopt the technologies that are getting predominant in IT general use; the current environment that I am calling the “Cloud-iPad era” is no different; therefore the practical discussion is not if those new technologies will be applied in the industrial environment, but how. This paper is not intended to join the conceptual discussion about the cloud, but just to present a few simple practical examples, where cloud technologies are already enhancing industrial automation solutions and enabling new business opportunities. Hello - Not sure if this is the right place, I apologize if not. Just let me know if I need to move it and can delete and do so. But I am currently working on a project where I am collecting seeds (flower seeds, etc.) and when a certain weight limit is met I'll be turning off a vibratory bowl and opening a chute, etc. Looking for some ideas on the scale and how to do that process in particular. The smallest collection weight will be around 100mg, largest around 8g. Mainly looking for ideas on the scale. Thanks for any help/tips, much appreciate.

Not able to establish DDE connection
Tay ChengYong posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Good day to all, I am trying to establish DDE communication between my PLC (1769-L23ER) and MS Access via RSLinx Classic Gateway (3.9) over Windows Server 2012 R2. On my developing PC (Windows 7), there isn't any issue at all. But when I port the codes over to Windows Server 2012 R2, MS Access is not able to establish DDE communications with the PLC. I was wondering what went wrong. The error message from MS Access is "MS Access can't find the specified application and topic because it can't open the DDE channel, err.Number is 282. The code for getting the channel is as follow OpenRSLinx = Application.DDEInitiate("RSLinx","PLC-D") I was wondering was there anything I have miss out. eg. Configuration of the server, path settings, etc.. Any help is welcome. TIA Cheers CY- 6 replies

ML1400: Manipulate output through modbus/tcp
MikosMotta posted a topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Hello I have a scenario that's been bugging me for some time now. The scenario consists of a Micrologix 1400 that I need to control it's output from modbus/tcp. In detail what I really need is to be able to manipulate the O0:0 through modbus/tcp. The PLC would be the master and I would be the slave that triggers the connection to the master. I'm using a Modbus-Client on my PC and that should be the slave. Any idea as to how I can manage that? Currently I can send data to the master but everything is "stored" on B10 and I have no idea how I could write directly on O0. Thanks a bunch guys. PS: I'm borderline noob. -
Does anyone have any experience with the recently released user web interface for the iQ-F and iQ-R series. Supported by GX Works3 version 1.047Z or later, the firmware Version 1.100 or later. We have the sample user web interface running in a FX5U, its working very smoothly. I am currently looking into how to edit the html page, does anyone have any tips or useful tools/resources that I could use to work things out. iQ-F Customer News regarding FW Update 08-2018.pdf

Generations of Technology in Industrial Automation Software
MarcosVTaccolini posted a topic in HMI & SCADA
The 1980s brought the early adoption of the PC platform in automation systems and the first large projects, using the PCs to communicate with PLCs. In the following decades, supervisory and control systems technology evolved, creating several generations of software tools and automation products. A generation means an evolutionary step and a new platform, with a total change of the programming methods, user interfaces and paradigms, going beyond than the merely incremental improvements that are made during the maintenance life cycle of products; a new generation means renewing the internal architecture. Hello! I am doing a project for an industry to make the sensor tools wireless. I am new to PLC. is it possible to make the measuring tools with sensors wireless with PLC? does it work on a industry environment and what kind of technology is best for comminucation? wifi or bluetooth? The existing sensors are connected with wires to a screen which says if the product is ok or not ok. I need to make this wireless. Any suggestions to make it easy? please suggest me the boards to buy to try prototyping.
