  1. Question from a PLC newbie....  We had a "blip" during a thunderstorm where we saw multiple signals on a 1734-IB8S point I/O transition from true to false for ~ 4 seconds (based on our DCS history from a serial connection).  There are several other modules on the backplane, and we only saw state change on this one card.  The 24VDC power is sourced from T-0 for points 0-3, and T-2 for points 4-7, so we don't suspect a short.  It's been suggested that we either had an I/O card "blip", or temporary loss of power to our field contacts (limit switches) caused by dust/vibration of the removeable terminal block.  Our controller is a 1756-L73S GuardLogix 5570.  My question is should I expect to see an I/O fault in the Minor Fault history (we did not)?  Would an I/O fault necessarily show up in this history, or does it need to be configured somewhere? Our points on this card are set up as single points with test pulse from T-0 and T-2.  We are reading status of limit switches in the field. Thank you in advance for any response. Kathy
  2. I had axis fault, which stopped the PF527. Only way to go on was to switch power off and on again. Checking the faults&alarms, I find out that the reason was Bus Undervoltage user limit. This made 'Immediate Stop' for the PF527. Looking at the parameters, I can not find any parameter for this. In the manual it is said 'DC Bus voltage level is below user defined limit given by Bus Undervoltage User Limit, or device defined limit if the user limit attribute is not supported.' What does it mean?  Is there parameter for this limit? Checking the AXIS_CIP_DRIVE tag parameters, DCBusVoltage is not showing anything, why is that? => Reason found, not marked in 'Axis properties' Cyclic Parameters page
  3. I'm trying to connect a SMC EX-260 to a Allen Bradley Micrologix 1400 PLC so  I can run some valves with it. However, RsLogix 500 doesn't allow me to just setup a generic ethernet device like I would on RsLogix 5000. Is there a way I can communicate these devices together so I can use the SMC Valve system with my Micrologix?
  4. Hi, I have problem with 5069-obv8s, trying to use it for a first time just to power relays and contactors. All outputs are in internal fault, even if their are not conected. The card is set to use single output as safety outputs. Additional power on LA+ and LA- ports is connected. I don't know what else should I checked to fix this problem. There is no problem in controler or this specific module just on all of outputs. Hope someone will be able to help.
  5. Is there a way to clear a CPU fault on power up without having to connect to software?
  6. Hello all, this is my first post. I am using an AB Micrologix 1400 (1766-L32BXB Ser C FW 21). I was trying to generate a pulse train using the PTO instruction. I have modified PTOX funct. file. The ladder is just a simple XIO followed by PTO, (The Quick Start ladder from 1766-RM001). When I looked at the output waveform on my oscilloscope, I noticed that it wasn't a square wave. I decided to run it at several different frequencies to see how the wave form would change. At 10Hz i got a square wave. As I increased the frequency the falling edge became sloped and almost horizontal. Is this how the output should behave? The data sheet indicates a max frequency of 100kHz, but at frequencies over 150 Hz. The wave form looks like the output of SMPS.
  7. Hello My emulator go to fault state as soon as it goes online and runs (Within a second) and the following error  Code 01, (May have been caused by an infinite loop, a complex program, or a higher priority task.) The same logic runs perfectly fine on a colleague's laptop  I'm using  RS Logix 5000 V30.00  Emulator V30.00.01 Running on Virtual Machine, Windows 7 Host system specs are:  8 GB RAM  Core i5 CPU @ 1.80GHz Socket 1 Cores 2 Logical Processor 4 Windows 10 Virtual Machine's specs:  4 GB RAM  Number of Processors: 2 Number of Cores per Processor: 2 Kindly suggest a suitable solution, what is the possible cause of this fault.    Thank You
  8. Hi all, I have my own driver to communicate with a MicroLogix 1400. Please refer to the attached screenshot from Wireshark. 10.10.21.10 is my driver's host, and 192.168.1.192 is the ML1400. The startup sequence to establish a connection & session with the PLC is correct I believe: - In the grey highlight, client requests a connection to .192 via SYN and this is ack'd - A session is registered, and forward open is successful - There's a lot of stuff in green simply because I've also got an HTTP browser session open to the PLC to monitor its session table - In between, spaced 8 seconds apart, are my two attempts to keep the connection alive by sending a List Identity request (as a ping, if you like). These are highlighted in pale blue. - However, 16.5 seconds from the start of the grey highlight, and 16.4 seconds after sequence=115 ack=99, the controller sends back a [RST, ACK] and a callback from my socket code tells me that the session has been dropped. The connection timeout for the PLC is configured as either 30 or 60 seconds, so I don't see how that's relevant here when the reset is happening only 17 seconds after it was established ? However, presumably the PLC doesn't see the application-level "List Identity" request as a valid means of keeping the connection alive. What is the correct mechanism to use that the PLC will accept as a keep-alive ?
  9. Siemens Simatic S7-1200 component selection

Hi,  I am designing measurement devices and i intend to use Simatic S7-1200 as PLC for my new device. The problem is, my background is nothing close the electric and I am having quite a lot troubles when it comes to select components, I do not know how can I select components that are compatible with the PLC i am going to use.  Pressure sensor, humidity sensor shall be selected and which parameters I should be careful about? I read somewhere 24VDC supply voltage is needed. Is it needed even the device has digital output or is it for analog output only? How do I make sure about the communication interface? For some devices it says I2C, is that compatible with S7-1200? or do i need a special communication module for each component? Then it will be super expensive.  I would appreciate any answer.
  10. I have a compact logix with a major fault. Please see my attached file for the complete fault message.  Code 20 array subscript too large. or control data type to large or invalid. Has anyone observed this issue before.  The PLC is a compact logix model.  Every time, the controller is switched from program to run the major fault occurs within 5 seconds.  The fault can be cleared but then it comes back in a few seconds.  I have been told by my tech that no program changes have been made.  Could there be a hardware/wiring issue? Thanks much Document_1234.pdf
  11. Hi there, As a software engineer, but a newbie to the Allen-Bradley world, sorry if this question doesn't make sense. I'm enhancing an existing driver by trying to add the ability to read/write structured and array data types - rather than just the elementary data types it supports right now. This following question is only in the context of SLC/500 & MicroLogix 1400. And I'm currently working on a Counter as a test case, but any solution obviously needs to take into account other structured (and array) data types. One of the requirements is that the user should be able to select a specific atomic item within a parent structure/array that they want to read/write. So, using the Counter as an example, they might want to define a field which holds just the value of the accumulator. I know that I can achieve this with a CIP command. I specify file type 87 for counter, file number as 5 (my test example happens to be the standard C5 data file of counters), and element is 0 (for the first counter in C5). Bit number is irrelevant so remains as zero. I ask CIP to return me 2 bytes of data (to hold just the accumulator word). Finally, I tell CIP that I want sub-element 2 (because the accumulator is Word 2 of the whole structure). Sure enough, the CIP response gives me exactly the 2-byte accumulator value I was expecting, nothing more, nothing less. Success. My question is this: I knew I had to specify the sub-element as 2; this happens to work for a Counter because of the way it is structured as 3 words. However, it implies that the value I specify for sub-element is ALWAYS measured in units of 16-bit words. Is this a universal truth (i.e. works for other structured types too ?), or does the size of a sub-element depend on other factors, such as the file type ?   Thank you in anticipation.
  12. Hello, Have this error come up constantly and can't be reset. Motor hasn't tried to drive at all. Second motor showing same problem. This is a new configuration on new machine. Other inverters configured without any problems. Anyone seen this before or any ideas what could be the issue.
  13. I'm a Controls Engineer and have exclusively used Allen Bradley for 8 years. Outside of my job, I was asked by a new start up brewery if I could help with some PLC and HMI issues they are having.  I'm anxious to lend a hand, but unfortunately it's all Siemens and I don't have any experience with it.  I'm sure I'll be fine once I'm able to communication with the PLC, but the software and license are my concern. My biggest hurdle is determining what software I need and hopefully finding a free version I can use. The PLC is a Simatic S7-1200.  I found a link on Siemens for a free 21 day trial for TIA Portal and WinCC, but wanted to make sure that was my best option. If anyone could offer any advice, I would greatly appreciate it!
  14. I thought only PLC5's had EEPROM, but I was told MicroLogix PLC's also have an EEPROM that need to be burned to... What are all the PLC's that have EEPROM and require an EEPROM burn to prevent the program from being wiped in a power cycle?
  15. My project is to read an RFID tag (ascii) with a Micrologix 1400, send the string to a PC using Ethernet/IP, lookup and compare in an Excel spreadsheet, and send back data (probably an integer) for the plc to use to control direction. I have to scan and compare an RFID tag to a list of 1400 possible part numbers, at different locations (more than 1 plc). I want the several PLCs to go to a single PC to make it easy to update when changes occur (on a weekly basis). Has anyone done anything like this? I'm assuming there will have to be some kind of vb or c+ application involved.   Thanks,  CK
  16. Hi All, Am trying to communicate and make In-Sight bar code reader to trigger through MicroLogix 1100 with RSLogix 500.  Does any have any info as to the steps to follow. Most of the info I saw and have tried were for SLC processor In fact, I created the String file ST10:0  for the target device as was mentioned in one of the posts but when I complied it there was error saying that St10:0 was not supported by the module. Please see attached file. Any insight will be appreciated
  17. Mitsubishi & Siemens OPC connection

Hi All,  I am undergoing a project that requires me to connect a siemens s7-1200 with a Mitsubishi FX-3GE PLC using OPC UA. I was under the impression that Kepserver ex could do this, you ca install a 'mitsubishi suite' and a 'siemens suite' which will allow the kepserverex server to choose the drivers and connect the two plcs. Siemen's support however have told me that the s7-1200 CPU cannot function as an OPC client, and just as a server? If true, I do not understand how to get the mitsubishi FX to be a client to the siemens server, as kepserverex seemed to provide a solution.
  18. Hello Guys, i have an issue with my powerFlex40; it's getting the F081 sometimes after a start. I have 4 pf40 and they are almost configured the same way and this working like this for years. the 4 pf are wired in the same way that when an emergency stop is pushed they are all powered off(400V); after acknowledging the e-stop they all start normally but that one brings sometimes(not always) the F081: Comm Loss. I can even not reproduce the issue because it is not happening every time.  Any Ideas what it could be? the network cable of the pf goes to a switch (all the 4 pf are connected on that switch) and from the switch to a 1794-AENT Ethernet adapter.
  19. I know nothing about HMI's or Crimson software.  I'm in I.T. and we had to change the third octet in the IP address and gateway on all devices at our warehouse.  I extracted the file on one HMI, changed the ethernet info, and clicked send.  That HMI that runs a carpet machine works perfectly.  I went to the second carpet machine.  Extracted the file changed it's ethernet info, clicked send.  It came back with all ---- (dash's) instead of zeros, the carpet machine won't work.  I kept messing with the file trying different things, and inadvertently saved over the original extracted file!!!!!  So I thought I'd extract the file from the working carpet machine and loaded it on the second carpet machine.  I get the same issue, all ---- (dash's) on the HMI and you push any of the buttons on the front of the HMI and nothing works.  These are Allen Bradley MicroLogix 1500 running Crimson 2.0 HELP I don't know how to resolve this issue.  I would have thought both HMI's would have been the same!  HMI all dashes.eml HMI all dashes2.eml
  20. Sample blocks for S7 1200 plc's

Hi experts, please share the sample blocks for the EDITABLE TIMER block it should be editable from HMI(Siemens). And also motor run hour block. Actually i am having all blocks in tia v12 version and sadly i dont have the old software to convert it again. So please share the blocks that it shoud be work in TIA V14 for s7 1200 plc's. Please note that the blocks should use add instructions to calculate the time because i don't have much memory.
  21. I have a micrologix 1100 PLC as well as a weintek HMI all connected through a network switch for them to communicate between each other, however I'm having an issue where the Micrologix Controller will not retain its IP address once I set it through Allen Bradleys BootP tool. I can set it through the tool and then go into RSlogix 500 and communicate with it and all that, but once the controller is turned off the IP address goes back to its factory setting of not showing an IP at all. Any suggestions/ ideas as to what I'm doing wrong?
  22. Hi, to start, I'm very new to Siemens PLCs, but quite experienced on others (mainly ABB). I'm looking to set up a profinet network between an ABB AC500 PLC and an S7-1200. The goal is to transfer variables from an existing S7-1200 (owned by the customer) to my new AC500. It is required that I do this without having to stop the S7-1200. I can set up the AC500 as a profinet device, and have the S7-1200 remain as the controller, but this requires a config change on the S7-1200, which means I'd have to stop the PLC. I tried setting up the ABB as a profinet controller, but I'm having trouble finding a GSDML for the S7-1200 to allow me to do this.  Can anyone advise me on the best route to take to solve this problem? Thanks in advance.
  23. Tia Portal Programming Help PLEASE

Hello I am having some difficulty writing code for a specific function using Tia portal and a S7-1200. I 10 Digital inputs and 1 analogue output set for 0-10V. When 1 DI is high I need the AQ to be at 1V, when any 2 DIs are high I need the AQ to be at 2, When any 3 DIs are high I need the AQ to be at 3V and so on.... I just can't work out the best way to do achieve this.   For a bit more info the to what the project entails the digital inputs are all coming back from DOL starters for woodworking equipment at workstations. When one of these starters is turned on a signal is sent back to the PLC DI card, this open a solenoid in extraction pipework and also increases the frequency at a VSD to extract the dust. So when more workstations are in use the higher the frequency of the VSD will be and the faster the motor will run allowing adequate extraction at all stations
  24. PLC occasionally going out of Run mode?

Has anyone had an issue with Siemens plc's occasionally going out of run mode? I was doing some research and found that it could be due to a bad analog input. Is there a way to tell which input or output is causing this fault? I know I can create a hardware diagnostics error organization block but that only correct from what I've read.     Edit: I've added a screen shot of the diagnostics report. The fault that may be the problem is: Temporary CPU error: Serious firmware exception  CPU changes to DEFECTIVE mode (system reaction)  This plc / system was installed 2 year ago and we've had this problem occasionally since. I'm guessing the wrong firmware was used during the install. Will try upgrading firmware this weekend.
