  1. I have to replace a PLC5 with a new 1756-L73. There are (3) panels involved in system. The main panel controls (2) other panels remotely via each their own 1771-ASB module. Time is of the essence on this project so I am trying to find ways to reduce the required downtime needed to make the switch over. I am going with AB's new conversion method of using the existing swing arms assemblies into a mounting adapter then the c-logix rack on top of that. Question - Can I convert the (2) remote panels first or can they only be done once the main panel with the PLC has been converted over? The remotes only have input & output cards in them.
  2. Hello, I am currently converting a project from PLC5 to ControlLogix. I have migrated the program from Logix5 to Logix5000 and any Block Transfer Read, Block Transfer Write, or Message instructions were converted to a MSG in Logix5000. We are using the  AB PLC5 to ControlLogix 1756 Conversion Kit. All old racks and cards will be upgraded to ControlLogix racks and cards.I have a few questions:1. In the old system there was only 1 rack with a PLC5, the other 4 simply had I/O and communicated that back to the PLC5 over DH. These BTR and BTW instructions were only used for the analog data somehow, correct? If yes, can you elaborate on this a bit please.2. As I said earlier, there were also message instructions. My understanding is that message instructions are only needed when communicating between multiple PLCs. So if there was only one PLC5, why were message instructions being used?3. The upgraded system will only have 1 rack with a PLC (1756-L73) and will be communicating with the other 4 racks over ethernet. Since ethernet is being used, are these message instructions (BTR, BTW & message from the old program) even necessary anymore? Do they need to be replaced with a MOV or COP instruction? If more information is needed please let me know. I'm new to the industry and this is the first project I was put on so I'm definitely a noob here.
  3. I had two esoteric question I was curious if anyone might be able to help with. First, I am playing around with way to monitor the internals of a PLC and I was curious if anyone has any idea on why to pull the internal memory off a ControlLogix 5580. Ideally, I would like to avoid just directly reading the config out and reading individual tags. I prefer to be able to get a little deeper.  Something similar to the crash dump, the RSlogix software can generator or something like the S7dump.exe tool for the S7 PLCs i.e. getting at the actual memory in specific memory addresses. Second, I was curious if anyone knew anyway to grab the actual binary are sent over to the controllogix after the RSLogix 5000 processes a configuration file. In this case I am looking for something similar to the binary files in codesys not the project file. This might be an assumption. Maybe RSLogix doesn’t ever produce anything like that but I figured I would ask
  4. Hi, Is it possible to get RS5000 or slc 500 software on an ipad to fault find and troubleshoot or even make edits.
  5. Hi, I have been helping a client overseas to upgrade and install some CPE330 PLCs configured as CRU320s to replace their faulty CRU320s. They had been previous controlling primarily from the Secondary (PLC B) for the last 6 years or so until PLC B finally failed due to a power surge. Having configured and downloading the previously working project to the PLCs in their respective hardware configuration, the system refuses to allow PLC A to control via the Citect SCADA, despite showing as Active and Ready on both Citect and the RMX Modules, although no outputs are read through Citect when PLC B is switched off at all. I found this forum from searching a previous post about drivers and if 90-30 and Rx3i required any changes (their previous setup before being Rx3i was 90-30), but as you confirmed in that thread, that the driver should be fine, unless you know of any issues with it working alongside newer PLCs configured as older ones? I should note we have discovered that the firmware revisions on each PLC is different and will be getting them to upgrade the later one to coincide. Each PLC has been tested in either HWC and both operate when configured as PLC B and neither operate fully as PLC A. We've had a GE technician check over the project and extracted text files from the PLCs and has confirmed the code and config looks correct. We're running out of ideas and out next step is to try and borrow 2 PLC racks and try to run them all first hand to see if PLC A runs on the SCADA in our office to try and rule out the software altogether! Any help you can provide would be much appreciated, Gene
  6. We have two computers and a plc that we use for training purposes to teach new techs the basics of going online with a plc and simple troubleshooting techniques. For some reason a couple classes ago we started getting an error from one of the pc's when we would try and download a program to our teaching plc. The exact same .ACD file can be downloaded to the plc with no issues from pc-1 but from pc-2 it gives the error attached below. I tried uninstalling all Rockwell related software from pc-2 and reinstalling but this didn't solve anything. Once I download using pc-1, pc-2 is able to go online with the plc and make edits no problem; it is just the downloading of the .ACD file it cannot seem to do. Processor: 1756-L55 ControlLogix5555 Firmware Version: 16.21 pc-1 OS: Windows 7 pc-2 OS: Windows 7 I'll be happy to include any extra details if needed but my team and I are just at a loss. Just short of formatting pc-2 we have no idea what could be causing this.
  7. Good Afternoon,   We have two PLC's and (L75), EN2T NICs.  One PLC is redundant.  L75 and L77 CPU's.  Over the last two weeks, we gradually lost HMI communications to ONE of the two PLC's.  Oddly, computer/RSLINX could see topics for ONE PLC but NOT the other.  Finally this was remedied by power cycling CPU. . . But then communications to second PLC, between RSLOGIX and CPU stopped working, while HMI comms was restored.  But now, gradually, we are seeing RSVIEW32 stop communicating -- that is, it stops 'seeing' topics on this second PLC, one workstation at a time.  EVEN THOUGH CPU SHOWS UP IN RSLINX.  When I run the OPC Test Utility, and click 'online', it shows no tags for that controller under 'online', whereas the other controller, shows the tags.  When I attempt to go online with the effected PLC in RSLOGIX, it just gives an hourglass.  Plant is running so my ability to troubleshoot is limited.  RSVIEW32 7.40 here under XP (I know it's very old). I even tried a separate installation of RSLOGIX on a laptop, same symptoms.  Even tried USB connection.  When I connect USB to network card, and browse to controller, it just gives endless spinning ball/Bill Gates stopwatch.  When I connect USB directly to controller, I also can't go online. Using mostly Stratix switches.  Also have a Prosoft Modbus card, and an eWeb card.  Problems seemingly came out of nowhere.  Any advice welcome!
  8. Hello everyone!  I am having some issues with the internal wiring/wiring of the 1756-OF8 analog output card in my Controllogix L55 controller. I have just recently started using  Allen bradley products, so please bear with me. If my memory serves me correctly, in my past experiences with other plc vendors I thought I was required to provide 24vdc+ from the power supply, which is common to all the channels used for driving the analog out(4-20ma) to the field device being controlled. But I can find any documentation from Allen Bradley that supports this. Can anyone shed some light on how to connect the power supply to the OF-8 card.   Thank you!! Shane
  9. Good Day, I am seeing intermittent bUs (communication bus) errors on 3 VFD's simultaneously.  These are Yaskawa P1000's with CM092 Industrial Ethernet Cards. There are Stratix 5700 switches between the drives and the Controllogix 1756-L75 CPU.  Happens every day to every week -- intermittent. Reading parameter F6-98, it indicates a 'connection time out'.  I don't understand why I would receive this fault.  IGMP snooping and querier are enabled on all switches, if that matters. I do not have unicast checked but Yaskawa said that didn't matter.  Packet time is 100 milliseconds.  I welcome any input on what might cause this.  One Yaskawa tech said I should set speed to 100 Mbps (now set at 10 Mbps). Any help appreciated.
  10. I am in the middle of doing a retrofit for a old PLC5 and i decided to upgrade it to a Control Logix. With how much I/O I was needing the price of the system was going to be very pricey. So I decided to use my main rack as a control logix and use Flex I/O for my remote racks. I have never put together a Flex I/O rack so I am unsure of what I need for this rack other than my I/O modules and a communication module. Could someone give me a list of what is needed for these systems?
  11. Hello, I have .ACD file but do not have any software to read ladder logic. Can anyone help me convert the file into pdf please?   Is there any software, apart from RSlogix, available out there to view this type of file?   Thanks, HA Skin_Measuring_3_05_18.ACD
  12. Hello, I've been wracking my brain, but I thought I remembered there was a way to store and execute a DLL file inside of a ControlLogix (not softlogix) controller? You could use exposed functions inside the DLL to fit your needs. Am I going crazy? Or is this not possible? Any insight into this is much appreciated. Thanks, neech
  13. I'm building a program from scratch for the first time in awhile and I'm noticing after adding an OA16 card that I have 32 bits of output data and the data type is a DINT.  I'm using version 30 now and when I open some of my older programs in ver.15 I notice those 16 bit cards are SINT and only have 16 bits of output data as I'd expect.  What gives, why am I seeing 32 bits for this 16 bit card?
  14. My client is a pharmaceutical company and they want to interface their Blood Gas Analyzer (which is a RAPIDPoint 500) to a Controllogix PLC via EtherNet. I have attached a Spec that I found, which gives the initial information you would need to do this. It says that the BGA can transmit data in ASCII. However, it doesn't list what bits I need to send to the device in order for it to send the PLC the data. I've tried contacting Siemen's (who makes the BGA) and they were useless. I also tried searching the RA knowledgebase.  Does anyone have any insight on how to communicate with a device in this way? Thank you Tyler RP500_LIS_5_20_13_-_Rev_C_.pdf
  15. I'm using Controllogix L61 redundancy system as a slave with DCS using ethernet tcp/ip socket programming. The communication between master and slave will fail after a switchover. Kindly give solution for this. Thanks and regards, Rasu
  16. Hi, I would like to know how to find a particular instruction in my ladder code. I'm on Logix designer. Thanks in advance
  17. We're running KEPServerEx 4.5 with the AB drivers to interface with a Siemens WinCC HMI. All we've done is change the L61 processor with an L72 and then KEP shows the incorrect values for the tags. We stick the L61 back in and all is okay. The Device properties haven't changed as the L72 is part of the ControlLogix 5500 family. The IP address is the same as well as the project name, etc. I've checked the properties against the KEP manual and all is okay. The manuals I have don't mention editing a device in KEPServerEx. I feel we've missed something. :hmmm: Any thoughts?
  18. Hi, I have encountered an unexpected "PRI" LED indication of 1756-RM Series B module. When the affected redundancy module is set to primary, the status of the "PRI" LED indicator is blinking red. On the other hand, it is set to a solid red when the RM is set as secondary. I have read the manual and there are only two expected behavior for the "PRI" LED indicator, green if it is set as the primary and off if it is secondary. Does someone encountered this scenario already?   P.S. The RM does not have any minor/major faults when accessed. The status indicator indicates "PRIM" when the affected module is set as primary and "SYNC" when set as secondary. Manual switchover between controllers are done and was successful. Thanks in advance! Regards, RIValencia
  19. Hi guys,  I am sorry for posting same issue over and over but  I really want to get over with this one. The way PLC program setup and actual structure of rack is different.   Could it be a problem when I try send an email from ControlLogix by using MSG command? When I put 1,2 in the path field, It shows Au200_2 but it is supposed to be Au200_3. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your time  I really appreciate it.
  20. We have L61's and L63's and are looking at upgrading them to the L7 equivalent. Has anyone had any experience of this and any pitfalls to avoid? Tech support have said that there might be issues with the comms cards resolved by updating their firmware. Is the upgrade that simple? We currently use Logix5000 at version 20.01 but are preparing to go to Studio5000 as part of the upgrade.
  21. Hello guys, I am trying to send an email from controlLogix controller. I have attached pics of where i am stuck with.  Can someone tell me what I have done wrong?  Thanks
  22. Hello guys, Newbie on this site. I am looking for a run time free Allen Bradley .NET driver. Basically a library (.dll) that implements communication protocols to Allen Bradley PLC's ( CIP, Ethernet/IP, etc.). Can someone point me in the right direction please ?.

  24. Hi, I'm using a 1756-l61 in a redundant chasis. The redundancy is working properly, but when I try to be online using rslogix the connection speed is too low. i did some tests, trying to removing one controller and breaking the redundancy and the speed came back to normal speed connection. some one had this problem? if yes, could help me? thanks joao
  25. Kinetix 6500

Hello All, I'm completely new to the motion control systems and I'm interested in learning servo programming and motion control. I was trying to find a good resource that I can start learning from A-Z, but I couldn't find any. I have a demo kit with compactlogix processor and two kinetix 6500 drives with servo motors. What is the best way to learn it. If you guys have any resources or basic sample program please help me. Any learning material would be helpful. Thank You All
