  1. Hello everyone, Working in Automation for the first time as a Co-op student so i'm fairly new to PLC's and the Automation field in general. I've recently been tasked with converting a RSlogix 5 program from an old PLC 5 project into a Studio5000 project. I referenced the manual (I'll attach link below), and had no issues using the RSlogix Project Migrator tool that I downloaded off the Rockwell website. My problem is that once I convert the program, my I/O tags that were originally sequenced in octets(0-7, 10-17, 20-27, ...) from the RSlogix 5 program, are switched into a sequential scheme in Studio5000 that just increments them in order (1, 2, 3, 4, ...). I hope this make sense, but basically the first seven tags match between the projects, but then I:010 in rslogix 5 is equivalent to I[8] in 5000, I:011 is I[9], and so on and so forth. Has anyone had this issue before and found a way to have Studio5000 keep the original octet scheme? I don't see this normally being an issue, but the customer has specifically asked that the I/O tag names be kept the same as the original program. Thanks for any help. - Ben   Converting PLC-5 reference manual link:
  2. To Whoever might read this: I am currently a journeymen electrician in CA with 12 years experience in the installation, Maintenance and design of commercial electrical systems. I have limited Industrial experience, but I know enough to get myself around without blowing myself up or the customer and their infrastructure. Recently, I have taken a few online courses on PLC programming using RSLogix Micro Lite. I realize this is very entry level stuff, but I thoroughly enjoy the process of forming ladder logic and problem solving and I believe my experience in electrical theory and installation has helped me understand the natural flow of this logic. My interest in this field goes back 10 years or so and I am just now getting around to learning the languages and logic behind the PLC's that I have built entire electrical infrastructures around. With that said, as a full time service electrician who just landed a job in the wastewater electrician/mechanic field, I am seeking opportunities to learn and grow in some form of internship or unpaid position as long as the workload is either remotely operable, or somewhere based out of the greater Sacramento, CA area.   I do not want to sound picky, but I am a young father with a full time career, newly married and a busy full time job schedule to keep up with. SO, I am definitely interested in any opportunity that will give me experience to add to my abilities as a programmer for future ventures. Thank you for your consideration!   MtHowe15 P.S. I am also TOTALLY up for any hints and tips as to what a good next step would be towards gaining experience!
  3. RSLogix 5000 Code Generation using C#

I put together a demo of the c# library I am working on for Rockwell PLC. It basically allows you to parse/construct the L5X files for code generation, documentation, and other uses.
  4. RFID + Proface

Hi Guys! Is there anybody worked already with Proface panel and RFID reader ? Can anybody help me with that ? Even it is possible to use RFID reader on a Proface touch panel ?  The software what I use is RSlogix 5000 and of course, GP-PRO for the proface panel. Thank you so much for your answers.
  5. pid tuning

Hi there! I have a problem with a process. The bottom line is I have a quite big asynchronous motor (about 110kw), with this motor I would like to fill a pool. There is a sensor that monitors the level. Im setting the PID for the motor control, it seems to be good, but unfortunately the fultuation is very big, however the level is perfect. I send a 4-20 mA signal to the inverter. Actually, it is almost everytime changing. I think it is not good for the motor. the changing scale is between 100 and 600 rpm ... What do you guys think ? Can this cause early motor or inverter failure? I had a thought, I did that I was doing an average and sent the current process data every 3 seconds. It causes that, the motor rpm 100 or 600 rpm.. nothing else, and change it about every 3 or 6 seconds,  because of te too much error I think.  How can I solve the this problem. The material runs out evenly from the pool, but the control variable is still bouncing. I monitored the process variable and the control variable too and the error too. I noticed that the output only changes when it is very close to the setpoint. for example the setpoint is 5000. And if the process variable is 4950 then the output is 100%. and if the process variable is 4992 then the output is about 67% but, the if the process data is 5010 then the output is 0%.   I'd expect that, for example that if the process variable is 2000 then the output is will be 100%. but the process data is 4000 then the output will be 50 % ... and so on.... so I hope I can find a permanent output value.  I dont know, maybe I made some mistake.... pls help me in this situation. Thank you.
  6. I had two esoteric question I was curious if anyone might be able to help with. First, I am playing around with way to monitor the internals of a PLC and I was curious if anyone has any idea on why to pull the internal memory off a ControlLogix 5580. Ideally, I would like to avoid just directly reading the config out and reading individual tags. I prefer to be able to get a little deeper.  Something similar to the crash dump, the RSlogix software can generator or something like the S7dump.exe tool for the S7 PLCs i.e. getting at the actual memory in specific memory addresses. Second, I was curious if anyone knew anyway to grab the actual binary are sent over to the controllogix after the RSLogix 5000 processes a configuration file. In this case I am looking for something similar to the binary files in codesys not the project file. This might be an assumption. Maybe RSLogix doesn’t ever produce anything like that but I figured I would ask
  7. FFL problem

Hi Guys! I have a problem.  I have a leaser sensor, I already set the sampling frequency to 0,1 s. So 1 second I will get 10 data. I need to use the average of the datas. My problem is I dont know how can I solve that, after the 10. data every new data I have to  recount, the last 10 data's average. I think maybe I have to use the FFL instrucion or something like that. I need to solve this problem in ladder diagram. I use RS-logix 5000 software. Anyone can help me?  Unfortunatelly I havent the the software, so I cant show you what am I think.    Maybe the sliding window solution is the right, or is it not related to this? Im a bit confused.
  8. Hi guys, any related website were i can download RSLogix English 500, i need to work on my AB 1400
  9. RSlogix 5000 service edition

We just downloaded and are using RSlogix 5000 service edition on one of our lines. This is a software that allows you to see the PLC program, but not make changes. It is great for our Maintenance guys, but one of my managers is worried that they will change what IP they are looking at and end up setting someone else up for failure later on. Is there a way to lock RSlogix on a PC to a specific PLC IP so there is no chance of them looking at Machine A's programming from machine B?
  10. Hi guys, Im using RS-logix 500 Pro for configure plc AB Micrologix 1400 1766-L32B. I would like to seek some help for enabling data logging feature for this device. Im not even know how to start it. I really need some help here. Thank you.
  11. Hi my problem may have a simple solution but i cant work it out. I need to use the Divide function but it wont let me use a decimal point in either Source A or Source B. Is there a way to use a decimal point in Logix 500 Math instructions? Im using an AB Micrologix 1400 PLC. Can you only use math instructions with whole numbers? is there a way around this? Thanks James

  13. Hi guys, I have a desktop with rs logix5000 activated with dongle and i want to activate rs logix 5000 on a laptop. Those 2 PC doesn't have internet. So I copy in the laptop license files of the dongle in the activation file , I see the available activations in FTA, but the activation in RS doesn't work even if I refresh the server...thx for ur help ! ;)
  14. Hello all. I have been working with an SLC 5/04 system, which houses various Digital and Analog INs and OUTs, up to Slot 29. I am currently mainly working with Slot 25, an Analog Input: 1746-NI16I. This is a system which has already been set up and has been running for the best part of 8-10 years. This particular card has had some spare inputs, one of which I am trying to connect to. In the Advanced Configuration, only a few Channels are actually "Enabled", and each channel is pretty much slightly different from another in terms of Input Type, Filter Frequency and Data Format. I am trying to set up Input 14, which is Channel 15, to "Enable" it, 4-20mA Input Type, Filter Frequency of 6 Hz and Data Format of either Raw/Proportional or Engineering Units. Now, after I have made my choices, I click apply, and then OK. I am then confronted by a pop-up which states: "Configuration Rung and Data Integer Data File Number: 25 Integer Data Element: 100 Rung to be inserted: XIC S2:1/15 COP #N25:100 #O0:25.0 24 At Program File Number: 4 82" I have the options of OK or Cancel. If I click OK, I now have LAD 4, Rung 82 Highlighted. This First Scan Bit and COP function were already here, but does that mean I have now altered what is being written to "#O:25.0"? I now Download the Changes. However, after all this, I am not getting any Analog input reading coming in from the Live PLC. What is this COP function? What does it do? How do I properly set up this Analog Card?   Thanks for your time, -Jame
  15. Average motor speed

Hi Guys!   There is a task. I have a motor, and I can monitoring the actual speed. The question is how can I to determine the average speed, if I know just the actual speed. If the speed is zero, it must be ignored. So I have to measure when the motor moves. Anybody have any idea? How can I solve this problem. RSLogix 5000.  Thank you.
  16. Multiple branch

Hi Guys! You can read my problem below, if anybody can help, please do it. Thank you. So, I have 4 knife. You can set the cutting width for each knife separately. The problem is, there is a lot of size. There is an example: No1 size:  #1: 20 mm, #2: 25mm, #3: 30mm, #4: 25mm   (#1=Knife1.......)                                       No2 size: #1: 22mm, #2:24mm, #3: 32mm, #4: 27mm What is make the problem more difficult is There are plenty of type code too. Like X1, X2, X3, Y1, Y2, Y3 ..... This is the main material code. and you can choose the belogging size. So you can select for X1 to No1 or No2 ... but you can select for X2 to No1 or No2 or any sizegroup you want. I can solve it with a lot programming, like deal every possible situation ... but there is a lot time .... :S  There is a touch panel where you can set the values.  Anybody have another idea for this problem ?
  17. I have a configured and working FT Transaction Manager, but the computer it’s installed on needs to be replaced and now I'm trying to install FTTM on different computer. I’m trying to complete the configuration "checklist", but when I get to the "Define Data Points" step, there are no applications in the "Select an Application" pop up window. What's wrong? I'm new to all of this...
  18. I'm trying to replicate something I've done in an RSLogix5000 file without the usage of those convenient arrays.  I have 24 counters, for 24 hours in a day. I have a MapleSystems screen relaying this data in the warehouse. The logic I've tried to implement is as such If bit (HMI assigned for shift start) = 6 --------- Copy C5:78 to C5:130 with a length of ten. I'm trying to copy the 10 counters that will be displayed on the MS monitor into the part of the counters that are connected via tags. It's done like this so that if someone starts the shift at 8, it'll take from 8 + 10 hours into the same C5:130 ten registers to display it on any shift. When I copied c5:78 --> c5:130 w/ len:10 it copies the first value C5:78 into the tenth register C5:130, when I'm trying to have it copy those ten into the C5:130 starting ten, to display on the screen. What am I doing wrong here? It's as if that length of ten is acting as an indexer and if that's the case, do I have to do 10 copy lines for each hour I want to utilize this logic on? Thanks so much in advance!
  19. I've found very similar errors, but not exactly this one. Does anyone have any insight on how to remedy this? I'm using Factory talk and RSLogix5000.
  20. I'm having a difficult time updating some HMIs on a production floor using both Rslogix5000 and EzwarePlus. I've exported my CSV from RS, and in the importation stage, it shows I have no tags. However literally everything on the screen is already linked up to tags. When selecting an objects properties and clicking tags there, everything shows up. When in the address library nothing shows up, and my CSV after clicking import, does nothing.  Is there something brutally straight forward here that I'm just missing?
  21. Clearing an Array in RSLogix

I'm having a tough time clearing the entirety of an array. I've tried using the copy function, the clear, the fill and the the file synchronous copy functions. I'm solely trying to copy 0's into the entirety of a 20 tag array. Example Tag[0] to tag[20]. I saw another thread here:  However, that didn't help me. Anyone have any shortcuts here?  Thanks so much in advance!
  22. Hi guys! Can anybody help me? I have an existing controlnet network. How can I connected a new module? Like an 1794 IB16. What should I need to do after I connected the new module? One more question: What's the difference if I do not connected the new module right after the last module, but I connected between already existing module. Then what should I need to configure. If anybody want to help, please write like step by step. I'm a beginner, but I want to imporve myself. Thank you for your help. I almost forget, I need to work with Allen-Bradley PLC, and I have RSLogix 5000 software.
  23. RS logix 5000 motion control

Hi Guys! I have a problem with Motion axis move (MAM) command. There is an Allen bradley servo motor what is working well. But I need to add a new program section, wich is in  a specified moment, the axis should move a certain distance. I think I need to use the mam command, just I dont know how can I configure the motion control part. I need to make a new tag ? or what ? I need to use a user define ? PLS help me.
  24. Any new tags I add in studio 5000 the HMI project shortcut cannot locate the tags, it says unresolved route to processor. It's the same shortcut all of the other tags are using. Please help.
  25. Hey everyone first post on here, does anyone know if it is possible to convert a string into a double integer. i am working with a dimensioner and it is sending me its box dimensions in a 12 char string (see attached picture). however i need this data as a double integer (it seems to just take the string length not the string value i have tried both dim_lengh and[0]). i have gotten it down to the point where i have the string split up into the dimensions i need but i dont know how to do the conversion. (box dims for reference are 21 X 15 X 14.8) Thanks in advance, Dr. Brule
