  1. Hello everyone,   I need some help troubleshooting  a devicenet problem that is a small system feeding 17 VFD's and servo's. The problem I'm having is the VFD's keep dropping out about every hour or so but its seems to be a different VFD each time so the problem seems all over and not consistent. The system has been running for over a year and no parts have changed. I'm use to problems having the same faults and locations not different every time so I'm a little lost on this one. Thanks for any help.
  2. Hello everyone, Wanted to reach out to see how far someone can test servo motors and drives with a muti meter. I know how to do the diode check and ohm plus check for shorts. But is there any other test that can be done to check the motor magnets or farther check out the drive. I have just switched jobs and servo motors/drives are everywhere here and I really wanted to learn all I can about them. Thanks for any help. Will be much appreciated. I asked in the Allen Bradley form cause all the products here are Allen Bradley. Thanks again. Ryan,
  3. Hello everyone, I was hoping to ask what ideas or things people have done to gather data and info. I work for a pvc manufacturing company and we have over 35 lines of equipment. My goal is to connect each line to our network and start to gather data from them. Such as pounds of material ran on each line, how many runtime hours are on a line to base our PM’s off of. I know I can network to excel but I would have to get each line back to the same computer that has rslinx installed on. I also know there is a ton of scada Systems out there, but have never setup one or built a scada system. End goal would be to allow some info to be available to the management team and others to maintenance and engineers. Not to just one computer. Look forward to any feedback on this. Thanks in advance.
  4. Hello everyone,   I have a question on a upgrade we had done at our factory. We had a older slc 500 running and pvc power transfer system and was asked to upgrade. I recommend a compact logix plc to replace but somewhere along the line I was out voted(not saying that was the wrong move at all just need more knowledge on the topic). Instead they installed a compact logix processor to the older slc still using the slc plc? If pricing was not a concern would it have been better to just remove the slc altogether? I know we use 1746-ow16 cards and wondering how long this system will be serviced by Allen Bradley or was using the slc a good move? Thanks for all the knowledge in advance!👍🏻
  5. Advanced HMI to raspberry pi

Hello everyone, was hoping I could find some help on here. I’m using a click plc for a home project to reuse rain water. And I was looking to find a free HMI software. Came across advanced hmi running through visual studio. Tried to load this on my raspberry pi 3 after building  it only to realize that it doesn’t work. I'm just trying to get an .net  application running on raspberrypi. Aka advanced hmi running on raspberrypi.  Communicating on modus TCP is there any way around this? Thanks for any help I’ve been stuck on this for a few days now.
  6. Thanks, I did find the manuals and I'm at least able to make the drive run now so a be step forward.
  7. Hello everyone, To get straight to it, I have done simple programming with digital inputs and outputs but I have never programmed a PLC to VFD over Ethernet. I start to mess with it a bit and found out how to setup a Powerflex drive over the Ethernet, which was a lot easier then I thought it would be, but to make things more difficult they are wanting Allen Bradley PLC's with Yaskawa VDF's. I have no clue how to set this up over the Ethernet. Thanks again.
  8. Compact L43. Thanks a bunch for the information. I have run into one problem. When making the AOI It created the tags and logic for me under the AOI. How do I use those tags in my main Program Logic. Second do I need to stat it anywhere what size drive or does the logic not care? Thanks again.
  9. Training

Hello everyone,   I have recently started a new job and it turns out to be pretty heavy on the PLC's. The company uses about 6 different brands of PLC's and I have been doing ok at the job but I'm a little bit struggling to learn all this fast enough? Is there any online PLC classes/training that anyone would recommend? I have used PLC programs in the past to just troubleshoot now I'm being ask to write programs. I know this is a big opportunity to jump my career, I just want to succeed at it. Thanks
  10. Hello everyone, I have had to work on a new machine lately. I have the program on file in my laptop under Studio5000. When trying to just open the program if faults saying that( Logix Designer support for this revision is not installed: To open this project you must: Cancel and install Logix Designer support for firmware revision 20.01: Change the controller's revision and/or type in the project.) the controller I am trying to connect to is a CompactLogix5332E, type 1769-L32E. With Studio5000 I don't even have that option to choose that controller. So how is this project in Studio5000 when that controller in not even a option and studio5000 revisions start at 21. Any help is appreciated    Thanks,
  11. Training

I have one compactlogix CPU to practice with and they are wanting me to start switching over everything to Allen Bradley.
  12. Training

Allen Bradley, GE, Siemens, Automation direct(Direct Logic), DMM( Dynamic Motor Motion) I know there is one more PLC brand I have been told about but don't recall the name, and know they want to replace the two we have. I will find out. Thanks
  13. Ok thank you very much this gives me a lot more understanding to work with.
  14. Thanks Collinsd70,   So if the machine has the program in it, can I try and upload it through rs5000? or would that not compare and fault?  thanks again
  15. Thanks nehets,   I have went to Allen Bradley's website and went through there downloads and revision 21 is the lowest one for studio5000? Is there a way to convert the studio5000 file to rslogix 5000? To my understanding is that rslogix5000 stopped at revision 20 and studio5000 took over. Is this correct?
  16. Not sure if my company allows that type of information to be shared I will have to get back with you on sending the program. Thanks,
  17. Hello everyone,   I am new to the blog and this is my first post. I have taken on a new job and I do a lot more with plc's then I have ever done before. Question is, I have a machine that had a similar but wrong program downloaded into it before I hired on. I kept getting the ER bit on the MSO Instruction for the servo motor for axis 1 & 2. After going through the instruction I changed in the Homing tab the mode from Passive to Active and I can now run my Servo motor. Few questions would be that I have no clue the difference between Active and Passive and why this got rid of the ER bit on the MSO instruction allowing me to run.   just so you know the difference between the two machines is the one I was working on the servo motor had a two plug setup (guess is motor power cable and built in encoder cable. While the program came from a machine with a three cable hookup. The three cable is a added on encoder I believe( if it is a added on encoder why still hook up to the built in encoder)? on the other hand the 3 cable hookup I have had no problem with and that machine has run fine. Like stated before the three cable hookup was downloaded to the machine with a two cable hookup. Hope this message is clear and not to confusing. thanks
  18. Understanding MSO Instructions

Not sure unless I just change it back. Sorry for not having more information this is my first time with Servo programming. The change I made. I clicked on the MSO instruction and went to homing tab and changed the homing mode from passive to active. By luck that made the servo ER clear.
  19. Understanding MSO Instructions

If I am looking at it right the number for Motion.MSO(0)ERR is 40.  Thanks for your help.
  20. Understanding MSO Instructions

Where do I access the code for MSO.ER? Is it in the instruction settings itself?
