FYI, looks like there have been two updates since the offending patch.  I went ahead and installed the latest update KB4058258 and so far RSLinx seems to work as expected. May be the permanent fix you were hoping for jazzplayer.

Ok, here's your workaround jazzplayer.... You have to download a utility from Microsoft to "hide" that specific update and prevent it from coming back. The utility is meant to be used as a troubleshooter and not a long term solution, however, I don't know of any other way to stop it.  My suggestion would be to prevent this update and hopefully the next iteration of the service pack will fix this. First, uninstall the update as we originally did.  Then download this utility found here... https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3183922/how-to-temporarily-prevent-a-windows-update-from-reinstalling-in-windo When you run this utility there will be an option to "Hide Updates". After selecting that, you should see the update you just uninstalled in the list.  Select it, and complete the wizard. According to the documentation this should mark that update and prevent it from being installed the next time your machine checks for updates. Cross your fingers!

Same problem for me jazzplayer :(  Update re-installed for me too!  I'll let you know if I come up with anything.

Ran into this same issue and thought I'd save you some time.  Turns out it is a problem with a Windows update and I needed to uninstall it.  Go into Control Panel -> Programs and Features... Select the link on the left that says 'View installed updates'.  Then find the update in parenthesis - KB4056892 - under the category 'Microsoft Windows'.  I think mine was installed on 1/5/18. Not the first time Microsoft has broken something on my machine and probably won't be the last!  Hope this helps you out.
