Going Online RSLINX and RSlogix5000

Hi, Forgive me, I am new with PLCs and have just now gotten RSLINX and RSLogix5000 to help me learn PLC Programming. I can't seem to go online in rslogix5000. I know I have to set up communication between RSLIX and Logix. I went to whos who in RSLINX and I have Linx gateway, controlnet and AB_ETHIP-1, Ethernet. when I select either one I still can't go online in logix. I get a message when I try to go online: failed to go online with the controller, RSLINX doesn't recognise the communication path. try checking the path by browsing in RSWho. Anyone's help will be greatly appreciated, Thanks
