  1. Hello ,

I have an interesting programming chalenge and i was wondering if anyone has ever had a similar request?

I have been asked to monitor and record how often a machine is running and express this as an overall machine ultilization, The logic for the machine run verses machine down is pretty strait forward the problem is that some portion of the machine downtime is with the power off and no power to the proccesser.  ThIs would all be done in Studio 5000.

    Thanks

  2. I'm not sure how to answer that i used version 30 because thats the version that we bought a couple of years ago. I am really not all that knowledgable about the studio platform. Can I ask what the different version would offer I think i can download any version i want now. Thanks in advance for any insite.

  3. So i posted here a couple times about converting an existing 5/03 system a 5069 compactlogix processor, lots of good advice so we dove in and bought the stuff ( A 5069-L310ER processor and a 1747 -AENTR ethernet adapter). The first problem i encountered is that the 5069 processor was not supported in the project migration tool in Studio500 V30.00.0 so a quick call to tech support and i created the project to a different processor and then converted it to the 5069, this was not too bad most of the program converted well the stuff that did not convert was pretty simple to fix. The 1747-AENT adapter was installed in place of the 5/03 and all of the old I/O became remote I/O. The neat part of this was that when i was done for the day i simply swapped out the 5/03 back into the rack and they could run production overnight that really helped eliminate a lot of stress. So after the program was completed I set up two HMIs (EZ automation EZ3-T8C-E) with ethernet /Ip driver but could not get tags to inport so a quick call to Ez automations tech support and they recommended creating a dummy tag exporting that 1 dummy tag to excel and then using the template that was created to copy and paste my tags to, It worked I was very happy to not have to bang out 749 new tags. So everything has been installed and up and running for a couple of weeks, the operators like how the screens perform ( ethernet vs. DH-485) but other than that the machine runs the same as ever.

We are planning on doing 3 more machines.

Thank for all of the help

  4. getting ready to upgrade some 5/03 proccessors looking at staying with rockwell. current plan is to replace 5/03 processor with a 1747-AENTR ethernet adapter and run existing rack as remote io with a 5069-l310er. The current slc500 program will be converted to 5000 with the rockwell migration tool.

anyone ever tried this, i am looking for someone to pick this plan apart. what i have read so far seems to make me think the program would be a good candidate for migration.

  5. A couple of mounths back a posted about the need to replace a no longer available panelview550. I got allot of good feedback and decided to go with a panel from EZ automation and the DH485 network protocall. Last week I installed my new EZ3 touchscreen and debugged over a couple of days, Overall I am happy with the product and the operators seam to like it (the graphics are allot bigger and in color).  I wonder if the EZ automation screen will last 17 years like the Panelview? I am down to 1 problem that i have not been able to resolve, the machines have parts counters on them that display the  number of parts produced since they where last reset. I am using C5:00.acc and so forth for the display tags and reseting with a B:3 bit. The parts counters count and reset like they should but the problem is that they do not retain the count totals when the power is turned off at the end of shift. Looking for advice on making a retenative timer

  7. Im not sure if it would be a code violation or not, if it is I have never heard of it and i have been to several NEC code classes through the years. I personaly woudn't care if it was if you have a system that works for your plant i don't see any problem with it. The stuff stored in the enclosure is probably stuff that would be used in that enclosure, it might not be a good idea to store earplugs in a panel

  8. I have  attached a copy of the panel builder program, There are 10 of the 550 units that would be pretty much the same and they are the ones that are most critical. The attached program is from one of these 10. I think i am leaning towards recommending that we spend the money on the allen-bradley replacements  (pv6-600). It sounds like it would take allot less resourses than connverting over to another brand of screen.

    Thanks

  9. Thanks for the replys, what am I up against converting the panel builder program to factory talk? ( Im sorry i dont no the actual file extension names) ( MER.- API. ?) I read a some rockwell info and it didn't seem that bad like the program will convert and give you a list of things to clean up? Most of these machines and the ones that are most critical have no analog cards. I have a good lisense seat for factory talk and have subcribed to rockwell support. Thanks

  10. I have around 25 panel view 550s that are currently still in use, I can no longer find a derect replacement and the membranes keep going up in price. Most of them are using the DH485 protocol and connected to 5/03 processors.I talked to my AB distributor he recommended a panelview 6 or 7 with a prosoft adapter. The quote was over 8,000$. I have been bying some of the automation derect c-more stuff for new applications but its been all done via ethernet. any suggestions?

  11. I Was wondering what other people do in regards to the follow up emails that rockwell support sends out after you use your service agreement. I try and fill in all the questions and give good feedback but i have also ignored them all together and never heard anything else. For the record I am a big fan of the rockwell support it may take several calls to get a problem resolved but they have never let me down.
