  1. When I needed to do something similar, I think a mix of 1) and 3) worked for me. In the metrics I put low number like 10 for wireless, and then higher number 100 or more for wired.

    Without any more information, I would think if you can use OPC, then it may be better as you'll have more options for HMI/SCADA that can read OPC.
