  1. Measuring motor current without VFD?

Inline Amp meter that mounts to the front of the panel?
  2. one other suggestion that always seems to help with my VM session is to make sure that any USB or serial connection is mapped directly to COM 1. I always change my port assignments to leave it open. Since a lot of "legacy" software requires ports 1-3.
  3. SLC500 to SLC500 via Ethernet/IP

What is the exact hardware you are using? Do you have a pre-existing Ether IP network that you can tie this into? Short answer is yes, you can transfer data from one SLC to the other. I have always used a MSG instruction, but I would imagine that an EEM instruction will also work with additional configuration.
  4. So, you are trying to keep the speed as close to the set point as possible. I would think this is a great application for a PID loop.
  5. 1734-OA4

Thanks for the info, When the manual stated that it was field power was provided by the bus I was stuck scratching my head as to how it got 120 VAC to 24VDC. Thanks for the info.
  6. 1734-OA4

I'm a little confused by the wiring diagram for the 1734-OA4. The module and installation manual only depict my outputs and the return. There isn't a connection for 120 VAC to provide power for these outputs. I have searched the AB site, read most all manuals I can find with no clarification. Any suggestions? the image below is from the manual and what is shown on the side of the module itself.
  7. I'm not sure how the routing through the cellular modems works, but with a MSG you can jump from subnet to subnet by just defining the route the MSG will travel.
  8. Ethernet/IP Node limitations

With only 30 nodes make sure you are using the same subnet for all of the devices IE: 192.168.100.XXX Just make sure to invest in decent switches and you shouldn't have any problems. The SCADA portion shouldn't cause any issues from latency/dropped packets. "Also this might be a new thread, but does anyone have a code example of the msg function to 2 5/05 PLC's over Ethernet/IP? I just want to mirror a couple of words on 5 connected 5/05 plc's" I would start the search in the AB Knowledgebase for message examples. I have looked at SLC to SLC, SLC to CLX and CLX to CLX in there. Search through the forums and you will find some very good topics on Ether I/P.
  9. RSLogix vs. RSLinx compatability

Thanks for the post. I have had a few issues with this as well. Both were being experienced while doing online edits on SLC 5/05's..
  10. Embedding application in Wonderware

I am pretty sure you can add your activex control to the library and then embed the application. I use the ActiveX controls for my Wonderware Historian Client Trend, as well as RSTrend and PDF Viewers.
  11. TURCK PICONET AND COMPACTLOGIX

We have multiple systems running with a similar set-up and they are all listed in the I/O tree as a Generic Module. If you happen to find a decent Add-On let me know.
  12. Securing RSLogix5000 software access

You can implement factory talk security and require a login for each specific user, you can select options that will require a successful logon before even opening the software. I would recommend starting out by researching it
  13. Are there any books or ebooks that you would recommend for practice/training on this stuff (panelbuilder32, Intouch, RSlogix)? I have found a decent book that covers the basics with the Control/CompactLogix system. It goes into pretty good depth but also gives you step by step instructions to help you get there. Plus it goes into good detail with RSLinx and communcation configuration (Serial/Ethernet). Introduction to the ControlLogix Programmable Automation Controller with Labs by Gary A. Dunning ISBN-13: 978-1111539290 This has been a great book for the students I teach at the Tech College here. Do you use PanelBuilder32 or FactoryTalk View?
  14. big Wonderware migration

Just need to map out the respective PLC's or devices within the DAServer and make sure the access names match with the application after you convert the Intouch program.
  15. big Wonderware migration

This upgrade won't be a huge undertaking, you only need to convert the application and configure the DAServers to match up the access names. Will you be using the IDE environment or just a stand alone setup?
