What's is the part number of the PLC? if you are using Ethernet way communication, you can use RJ45 Ethernet cable which can go 300 ft, but you can either add a hub or a repeater to extend the length. Also if it is really far, you can use fiber... 2km/1.24 miles (multimode fiber) up to 14km/8.7 miles (single mode)... Any way, I have worked on Fetak PLC communicate with a SCADA software through both COM port and Ethernet which can work very well.
