  1. CJ1W+TC101

In general it is not possible to connect two PT100 inputs to the same element, but it should not be any problem to split the signal in the PLC and direct the temperature input(s) to as many controllers as you like.
  2. How does Omron compare to others?

Summertime revival :) Earlier, I used to do troubleshooting on systems based on Siemens S5 and S7, various generations of ABB, Bailey controls and even a very old AB plc. Never got particularly friendly with the S5, but our Siemens guys could make some rather advanced programs. I liked the S7 way better, but my favorite were the ABB systems. Now, I teach the basics of PLC-programming based on a variety of Omron equipment. For that purpose, and as a machine controller it is very good, but process control with analog signals is a bit more tedious to implement in Omron than ABB. The ABB systems I used to work with are a lot more expensive though...
  3. .cdm file trouble

Thank you, will try that from now :)
  4. Hi, I got this CJ2H-CPU64 EIP in my home office, and use it for switching on/off the stereo, some lights and instruments. For obvious reasons I call it Marvin. I have tried to set it up for automatic time synch from time.nist.gov. It don't synch, but show the error code Er E3. At first I thought it was depressed, but found out this probably means no contact with time server. I have opened up UDP port 123 and all the low TCP ports in the firewall. There is no indication in the firewall logs that indicates blocking of traffic to/from the PLC. Apart from the URL, all the settings concerning time in the PLC are default. Any ideas?
  5. CJ2H-CPU64 EIP time update problem

Thank you, I have not had the time (sic) to look into it until this afternoon, but it seems to be OK now. Don't know exactly what did the trick, but as I did not have the DNS server specified (I assumed it would use the default DNS of the ISP) , it probably helped to use the IP address of the time server instead of "time.nist.gov". Also I put the IP address of my firewall in the Default Gateway. Geir
  6. V4.1 DVD download trouble

When I try to download the new version 4.1 DVD ISO, I get a proxy server error. The CD version comes down smoothly, however. Is this a problem in the Omron server, or is it that this new version is too popular?
  7. NTC temperature sensor and CP1H

Unlike the platinum sensors the dedicated temperature modules handle, the thermistors vary too much in characteristics to give accurate readings. The actual values of the resistors will vary according to the type of thermistor you have, but if you make a Wheatstone bridge like the one below and connect the +24V to the top and the voltage input terminals of a MAD11 across it, you will have a primitive but functional temperature measurement. As an example if your NTC is 10K at 25 degrees C, it would be 26K at 0 degC and 4,4K at 50 degC, if R3 and R2 are 10K and R1 is 26K, you would measure OV at o degC and approx. 8V at 50 degC. You would have to compare your thermistor with an accurate thermometer at various temperatures and and monitor the reading from the MAD11 to calibrate it. More about using thermistors
  8. LK201

I can see why you are amused :)
  9. CJ1G cpu 42H clock problem

Hi, I just got this CJ1G unit at a reasonable price from ebay, and it seems to be OK, apart from a couple of issues: When I try to synchronise the internal clock, it reverts to some date in 1899, I didn't even know they had PLCs back then :) Also when I try to auto-build the IO table there is no response, it is connected in program mode. I can make the IO table manually and download it though, but the MAD42 is listed as C200 ASCII unit. The address is "right" and the green light is on, but I have not tried it with an actual input yet. I think this is a very early 'H as it has no version number, I use CX-programmer V9.2. Can the clock and IO problem be fixed? Geir Update: Now I can auto-build the IO table, but when the PLC is online, the MAD42s are still listed as C200H ASCII UNIT, could that be because the IO is much younger than the CPU? Have also tried setting the clock with the DATE function, and looking at A351 - 354 in the Watch Window, but still no joy :)
  10. V4.1 DVD download trouble

Good news at last, now I have been able to download the ISO, reassemble it, unzip, burn and install on a spare Vista PC :)
  11. V4.1 DVD download trouble

Still struggling with this download, now the proxyserver error is gone, and I get a page with the ISO file split in 3, and a .bat file to reassemble it. When I try to download these, I seem to be getting approx 450 of the reported 950MB before Opera DLM reports download fail. IE also stops at 450, but gives no error message :(
  12. CJ1M IO Table

Some time ago this post, but I stumbled upon something that might be useful while looking for something else :) (The text got a litte jumbled while copying but the original is in page 375 of the operation manual): Basic I/O Unit Status Area A05000 to A06915 Indicates alarm status (load short-circuit protection) for Basic I/O Units. (From slot 0 on Rack 0 + slot 7 on Rack 3) Read-only I/O Allocation Status A260 Indicates the current status of I/O allocation, i.e., Automatic I/O Allocation at Startup or User-set I/O Allocations. Read-only Units Detected at Startup (Racks 0 to 3) (CJ1-H and CJ1M CPU Unit only.) Rack 0: A33600 to A33603 Rack 1: A33604 to A33607 Rack 2: A33608 to A33611 Rack 3: A33612 to A33615 The number of Units detected on each Rack is stored in 1- digit hexadecimal (0 to A hex). Example: The following would be stored if Rack 0 had 1 Unit, Rack 1 had 4 Units, Rack 2 had 8 Units and Rack 3 had 10 Units: A336 = A 8 4 1 Read-only Name The I/O table itself seems to only be readable from a programming device, but unless you have changed any slot adresses manually, A336 should at least tell you if there is something there or not, but not what kind of module.
  13. CX-Supervisor and Windows 7

Is there an educational version of this available yet?
  14. V4.1 DVD download trouble

Hmm, thought I already had made another comment of this? Whatever, it appears that the CD version was not as smooth as I thought, two of the ISO files gave CRC errors when unpacking, but when I redownloaded them at school, they unpacked fine. Trying to install, however, the first CD was OK, but the second had a corrupt .CAB file, and the installation was aborted :(
  15. C200HS DA001 problem

Hi, this time I'm trying to add an AD001 to our C200HS PLC, without success so far :( When I add the module to the backplate the green LED is lit, and the output is at 1,00V no matte what data I try to MOV into it. In CX-Programmer 8.3 I get a Non fatal error IO setup verify failed when I download the program, no option to download IO table . When I look at the IO table, I can upload the existing modules, and when I move the AD001 module from one slot to another, it also moves in the IO table. I can add the module to a slot, but don't get a transfer option (that might be normal for this generation PLC?) I have also tried a DA002 module with similar results. Have studied both the IO module manual and the C200HS manual without luck... Anything I have overlooked ? Geir
  16. C200HS DA001 problem

Too easy, that must be the only thing I didn't try :( On the other hand, I believe in doing the same mistakes as my students :)
  17. Strange MAD42 problem

Hi, I have this CJ1M-CPU11 ETN setup with 1 ID211, 1 OC201 and 2 MAD42 units. The program I made for it has been functioning OK for several weeks, although it has not been in operation continuously, the system is shut down at nights and weekends. Today I was playing around with the logging to CF-card section when suddenly after a download none of the MAD units came up again. Nothing in the error log, but I had a "Special unit setup failed" when I downloaded the program. I then replaced the MAD unit, but still have the same condition. The unit setup is done in the ladderprogram, not in the setup menu, but I tried that too. Sometimes when I do the download the other MAD unit comes up OK. The first one has no green running light and the ERC light, the second has running and ERC, but that is because one of the loops is not connected yet. As far as I know, I have not done anything to break the unit setup section of the program, unless filling a 3000 by 10 word array in 0,1 s interval is bad :( Could the program itself be corrupted? Any suggestions? It's mostly myself that has been tinkering with this, so I can't blame any of my students :( Geir
  18. Strange MAD42 problem

Found the problem, it was entirely made by me; I expanded the width of the log array from 10 to 16 words, and then it overwrote the setup adresses for the analog I/O :(
  19. Strange MAD42 problem

Thanks for the quick reply, will do some more troubleshooting when I get back to the school tomorrow - eh, later today :) Geir
  20. Omron wireless communication

Hi, have anybody with any success tried wireless communication between Omron PLCs and CX-programmer? I recently tried to connect a wireless router configured as an access point to the hub that is usually between the laptop and the PLC, but with no success :) I did not put too much effort in it at this stage though...
  21. Omron wireless communication

Any special settings? Do you use the same subnet as your "regular" LAN/internet connection, or are just the PC and PLCs on net?
  22. Hi, I always seem to end up with the wrong data type (INT/UINT/DINT) when trying to do more than one thing with a signal. My numbers are in the range of 0 - 10000, so the calculations should be OK anyway, but these compiler warnings are annoying . Is there any "correct" way to keep the compiler happy? Is it for example considered good practice to make two symbols with different data type for the same address, or have a symbol point to one half of a DINT (probably not ).
  23. NT631C Display problem

Can't remember the number on it, but I think it is the cable that was delivered with the PT, anyway, I fixed the MOV, so now everything seems to be OK, thank you :)
  24. Hello all, I am in the process of replacing a CQM1 with a CJ1M PLC. The PLC is connected to a NT631C display, using NTlink 1:N. I have communication, I think, when I test it from the internal maintenance screen, I get several ***s and even more ***s in response from the PLC. First I used H100/105 as the status/notify address, but got "address setting error" on the PT at initialization. According to my manual, this should be OK, as long as I'm not using the HostLink protocol. I then tried to put the status/notify in the CIO and D areas, this time I got no fault, but just a black screen, the "Run" led is lit. I assume this is screen 0. In the PT setup the initial screen is set to "10". In the PLC program I MOV &10 to D100, I have also tried to change the content of this address from the watch window with no result. In the old CQM1 program there is no screen init, but then it worked OK :( Am I overlooking something obvious here, or more subtle? I must admit I haven't read through all the 453 pages of the NT631C manual or the 600+ pages of the NTST manual, but who has :)
  25. Overview of Omron functions

Hi, at our school we have several generations of OMRON PLCs from C200, CQM to CJ1 (and some even older tucked away in the attic). Is there an overview of which commands and functions one can use on the various CPUs, or will I have to dig it out from the various manuals?
