  1. Hi, Can someone give me a glimpse of different PLCs and DCS available in Honeywell. Ex: In Siemens we have PLCs classified as 200, 1200, 300 ,400 and DCS as PCS7. Also if would be of great help if I can get a link to honeywell's PLC and DCS Cheers Nil
  2. Wonderware vs WinCC

Hi Greg Dubiel Can u just let me know what exactly ArchestrA is ??? Regards Nil
  3. Wonderware vs WinCC

Hi Greg Dubiel, I was glad going thru ur replies and thanx a ton... Anyway the last para I mentioned was related to Foxboro A2 DCS. I just heard that Foxboro A2 DCS is a mixture of PAC and Wonderware... and was just worried that I may end up with same kind of restrictions.. But u mentioned something about ArchestrA.. Both ArchestrA and Foxboro A2 are they same ?? Can u give me some feedback about Foxboro A2 DCS .. In Wonderware, memory tags are also counted in the License Tag Count .. Is that true ??? Regards Nil
  4. Wonderware vs WinCC

Hi all, Have been using WinCC for some time and we are planning to switch over to Wonderware Intouch. Meanwhile I had Wonderware distributor at my office and few of the following points were confusing and he couldn't conclude properly...... 1) Only PLC tags can be connected to Alarm. Memory tags can't be connected to Alarms .... 2) After 64 tags, the next available is 500. So if my application calls for 100 or 200 tags then I need to invest for 500... So aren't we out of competetion when other vendors have options for 128, 256 ???? 3) Incase of iFix and WinCC, without developer license we can still work for 120 minutes and later close the application. Again open the application and work for next 120 minutes ?? Can something similar happen in Intouch??? 4) Intouch history tag logging is only for half the tag license. For ex: if we procure 64 tag Intouch, then we can have history logging for only 32 tags, like wise for 500 tags we can have history logging for 250 tags... Is this really correct and is this the way history logging is restricted ????? 5) In WinCC we got basic pre-configured report view. We got to link history tags to this report viewer and thats it.... This option seems to be missing in Intouch. 6) Intouch license would be in the form if Dongle .... Doesn't come in the form of Sofykey ... Moreover we are planning to use A2 DCS for few of our projects . Since A2 is combination of Wonderware + PAC , do we have the same kind of restrictions in A2 system as explained above for Intouch ??? Thanx & Regards Nil
  5. Square wave timer? Simatic S7 Manager

Hi, Ofcourse u can do the same, even without timers. Refer to the CPU h/w properties where in u got something called clock memeory. Assign a M address. You get frequecies from 0.5 sec to 10 sec. Each of the M (bit) will hold the frequncy as mentioned... Hope this is good.. Regards Nil
  6. Foxbro DCS

With Siemens I had the opportunity to create User Defined Blocks using Pascal. Upon compilation the Pascal Code generates Fucntion BLocks ( FB ) which could be used in the project. This facility helped me a lot in many projects. Does I/A or A2 have this kind of High Level Language facility for user defined Blocks ?? Does Foxbro has any online forum to post related questions??
  7. Foxbro DCS

Hey Ken, Many thanx for ur answer. Do both A2 and I/A share a common Engg and Operating Software OR both have different sets of ES & OS software..... Cheers Nil
  8. Foxbro DCS

Dear all, Have been using Siemens PCS7 since many years and now we are thinking to use Foxboro. It would be of great help if someone could let me know how good Foxboro is when compared to other DCS Vendors... If already some one has used both PCS7 and Foxboro, u can let me know ur feedback accordingly. Meanwhile I got a very little information regarding Foxbro A2 System ..... and it goes like this For a plant having 500 IO Points, the total number of CPUs that come into pciture is approx 9. At this point do the Client / Consultant agree for so many CPUs to be scattered in a plant ??? Does the same kind of Architecture hold good for Foxbro I/A System DCS ??? As far I know, for ABB/Siemens/Yokogawa DCS, only CPU will control the entire plant of 1500+ IO.... Regards Nil
  9. S7-200 Com . Protocols

Hi, Find attached part of S7200 manual. Under the section named "Communication over a network - chapter 7 " u can find the answer for ur question Regards Nil S7_200_Communication.pdf
  10. S7 IO REDUNDANCY

Hi Pioneer, Try using PIP instead of OB1 P1. Also donot forget to assign the PIP used to one of the cyclic OB's in the hardware configuration. Regards Nil
  11. S7 IO REDUNDANCY

Hi Pioneer, Just check the response what user H-H replied on siemens site. U may use the same link which was last posted by me. Hope this helps. Regards Nil
  12. S7 IO REDUNDANCY

Hi Pioneer, Sorry for the delayed reply. Find attached the reply for the same topic which u posted in siemens site. https://www.automation.siemens.com/WW/forum...p;PostID=127341 What H-H replied in the post is correct. Only the lower address can be used in the application. But anyway I am not sure what happens if the lower address module is removed and if you still happen to read the address of the removed module. Posted the same to H-H. Lets wait for his reply. Also in the h/w don't forget to specify the additional parameters for the AI redundancy. Regards Nil
  13. S7 IO REDUNDANCY

Hi Pioneer, Well, I tested the application on of the H-CPu's & its working perfect. I was able to achieve AO redundancy. Refer the manual which I posted in my earlier post. (Pages 134 & 135). Read them very carefully. Feel free to ask me if u need further clarifications. I shall not be available for the next 3 days. Shall msg back to u once I am back. Gud Luck Cheers Nil
  14. S7 IO REDUNDANCY

Hi Pioneer, I am sorry for the delayed reply. Find attached S7400H manual. Check the Chapter 10 named "Using I/Os in S7-400H". U can go thru the page 134 & 135. Its very clear where the Redundant blocks are, and in which OBs these need to be inserted. U need not do anything with the return values of redundant blocks. These values can be used only for diagnostics in case of error in return code Hope the above is clear. Gud luck Cheers Nil S7_400_h_en_en_US.pdf
  15. S7 IO REDUNDANCY

Hi Pioneer, Had a quick look at the h/w. Its gud. Got a small suggestion ... Why don't u try AO redundancy. This will be bit easier, since in the case of AI redundancy we need to simulate 2 signals to be fed to both the modules. Define 2 AO modules as redundant. Then write some value (Say50%) to one of the module(Say channel 1 of 1st module). Then check the output current at both the modules 1st channel. U should get 6mA from the 1st channel of both redundant module. Let me know how this works...... Just add FB450 & FB451 in OB1. Just call each of them in 2 separate rungs. Gud luck. Regards Nil
