Micrologix 1400 Web server
Ken Moore replied to gumpus's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
I've never used the web server in a ML, but this manual may be of some use: http://forums.mrplc.com/index.php?app=downloads&showfile=495 It's for a ML1100, but I assume they are similar. -
If quality and ease of use were factors I recommend OSI soft's PI historian but they are not cheap....you get what you pay for.

RSLogix5000 newer versions
Ken Moore replied to Daryl's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Ask your rep. for the price of the lowest support, I do not recall the exact name, something like econnect. Should be way cheaper than the software upgrade, then you can download the latest version at no charge. -
I do not recall how many high speed inputs the ML1100 has, but another options would be to mount a prox switch so that motor or pump rpm could be monitored. A simple collar with one pin and a prox switch, count the pulses to determine RPM, you do not have to be extremely accurate, since you are basically looking for a run/no run status. Just a thought.

I used to work at a Plant that had several installations of Fix 32, the upgrade path is a little murky. GE does not give the same level of support that Intellution gave. I recommend you keep good backups.

Any suggestions for a good sci-fi book?
Ken Moore replied to TConnolly's topic in General Topics - The Lounge
The type of book you are describing would be classified as "Hard" science fiction, I'm sure a google search would turn up many good suggestions. regards, Ken -
I have to admit that I almost never call support, maybe once a year. I would like to have a different line to call. The I know what I'm doing line. You would have to pass a test to get access. Then I could bypass all the simple questions and jump to the meat of the problem. Just saying.

Hey Okie, I have the same problem as the guy in the link. I called RedLion this morining and they said it was a hardware issue, and should still be under warranty. It's a 306A, not a 308, I have two 310's in service for about a year longer and never had any issues. The other link was a 306 too, wonder if there is a model specific issue? thanks, Ken

I have a 308 that has been in service 18-24 months, two days ago the display stopped working. I can ping it, and I can "see" the display via the web server. So I assume a back light or fuse or something has blown, are there any user replaceable parts? I plan on calling Red Lion later, but I suspect I will have to replace it. thanks, Ken

I always use black/red or clear/black and black is ALWAYS negative. Just like your car.

Well.... how would a human do it. I would open 100% and wait until it felt warmer then throttle back. What happens if you open control valve 100% in manual and hold it for XX seconds, then go to auto with a mildly tuned loop? good luck, Ken

SCADA System Hacked in the News, Interesting Story
Ken Moore replied to Chris Elston's topic in General Topics - The Lounge
So....the saga continues, who knows if anything really happened , and if it was meant to do harm. -
How about grounding? UPS systems usually have an isolated ground, is the processor ground to this or earth ground?

Please whats the name of these P&ID symbols?
Ken Moore replied to acmilan4eva1899's topic in General Topics - The Lounge
Many times, companies compile a symbol legend, this avoids confusion, does the drawing owner have a legend sheet? -
Compactlogix with Yokogawa Chart Recorder
Ken Moore replied to dave's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
1. Historize the data values in the Scada system, then print out a graph? or 2. Use the Scada system as a protocol converter, Scada collects values, converts to Modbut tcp, and sends to recorder. -

I agree with Ken, one off's are hard to justify. If you were going to have multiples of this system, then in house might make sense. -

Multiple Analog Signals
Ken Moore replied to mhowasso's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Why do companies spend fortunes on equipment and go cheap on controls? Who would ever design a system with 24 analog points and then try and go cheap on the PLC that monitors/controls them. I do not understand the logic. If there was a design need for 24 analog values, why would you not design you control system to handle the same number of values? -
I remember.....what a thread..
