SLC503 convert to Control Logix System
Ken Moore replied to Sleepy Wombat's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Just my 2cents, but wouldn't the compact logix be a more reasonable (price wise) replacement? -
I have a customer that has a piece of skid equipment that came with a ML1400 series A, and some sort of panel view type display, not sure of brand yet. He wants to connect this skid to his DCS for monitoring and alarming. He already has a copper to fiber converter installed and fiber ran to main control panel. Question: If I replace existing ML1400A with a B series (which supports Modbus TCP/IP), can I also continue to communicate to the Panel view via DF1 or CIP ( not sure which is used). Does the ethernet port support multiple protocols at the same time? Inquiring minds want to know. thanks in advance.

ML1400 Modbus TCPIP and DF1 doable?
Ken Moore replied to Ken Moore's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Thanks Ken, luckily I got tied up today and did not contact the customer about this. Whew, (wipes sweat from forehead). I will recommend buying a new series B. BTW, You still da man. -
ML1400 Modbus TCPIP and DF1 doable?
Ken Moore replied to Ken Moore's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
Thanks Ken, You da man. :notworthy: :notworthy: I suspected the ethernet port would work, just didn't want to tell the customer I had a solution and then find out it would not work. Thank you, thank you very much. Ken M. -
If the lights on the card do not come on, and they used to, then the card is most likely dead.

DL205 count pulses, what are the options?

Thanks, I assume the workbench comes with the module. -
On long runs with voltage inputs, you have to compensate for voltage drop, not need for current inputs.

Powerflex 4 Question
Ken Moore replied to The Turkey Slayer's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
You could also use a H-O-A switch and run the Hand contact through the foot pedal before going to the drive. (two wire control) The maintained switch basically replaces B_carlton's relay. -
I'm sure there are many, but Windoze 7 has a built in one, that is okay http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/products/features/snipping-tool

Okay, last year I left my plant support position and went to work for a engineering services company. I have gained over 12 pounds. No more running out to view the process and see what's wrong. No more muli-floor stairs to climb. How have others making this transition coped. I have told my wife to put me on a Rabbit Food diet, but I do not know if that will work. Any hints, comments or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

DanW, agree it's a mass balance. It's just that you do not realize the amount calories you burn in a normal day, when supporting a running plant vs. sitting at a desk pounding out PLC code and wiring diagrams.

PVC - USB or Ethernet, which is fastest?
Ken Moore replied to brazierp's topic in Allen Bradley / Rockwell Automation
No one has responded, because you have not given enough information for anyone to understand what the flip you're talking about. -
It means your processor cannot evaluate all the PID loops assigned, in the time allocated. So each scan so of you loops are not being updated. You should check the update time on you loops and try to make them slightly different, if your process allows. Do not make every loop 1.0 seconds, make one 1.1, another 1.2 etc...

Interposing Relays or Direct Drive Solenoid Coils?
Ken Moore replied to Bob A.'s topic in General Topics - The Lounge
If they were low wattage solenoids, maybe, I would connect directly, but at the 20-30 watt range, relays always. -

I drink my coffee straight, so that's not the problem. I have started to walk around the building during lunch, can't hurt. I guess there is Rabbit food in my future.

The ML1400 has two serial ports, are both in use? You can use MODBUS on the round one, might be an option.
