  1. SLC 5/04 Messaging

Thanks Ron, that helped a lot. Please let me make sure I understand something properly, integer file let's say N17, N17:1/0 - N17:1/15 would be a whole word correct ? and with control logix, if I create a tag n17 as a type INT that would also be considered a word? so If I wanted to send 4 words of data from this INT could I just use an array of 4 ? Thanks For Your help.
  2. trying to setup some messaging with a SLC 5/04. im not sure about data files needed. do i need a seperate data file for the message control block ? and then a seperate integer file as the data table address ? Thanks for any help.
  3. I have a SLC 5/04 processor running a machine and want to get it tied in to an Ethernet network,so I can do some messaging with a CLx5000, Was going to just change processor out to a SLC 5/05, BUT my panelviews are using DH+ on the SLC 5/04 and do not want to change all panelviews out, does anyone know If I could use a 1761-NET-ENI to communicate over ethernet with this 5/04 ? or any other solutions. Oh and I have no room for expansion in the SLC rack so adding anymore cards to the SLC 5/04 is not an option. Thanks For Your Help.
  4. Subnet Mask

Did Talk to Rockwell and he suggested using a 2nd NIC in the PC, says there are however some downsides to doing that. I did set the default Gateway of my PC to same IP as Router and still nothing. Now the other devices like 192.1.17.15 (the particular device I want to exchange data with) there is no gateway settings applied, Could that be the problem ? sad part is if that is the case I would have to shut device down to make that change. I can go to any Ethernet switch anywhere in the plant and get on with any network I want, but I have to change the IP of my PC to the same range as the device I am trying to connect to.
  5. Subnet Mask

Ok Guys Guess Im a bigger dummy than I thought. set aside the machine addressed 191.1.15.xxx for now. I set the Subnet mask on my PC to 255.0.0.0 and Ip to 192.1.17.233, now using RSLinx Classic Gateway I cannot communicate with 192.168.1.213 but If I do a ping from My PC it is successful with 192.168.1.213 so Not sure what I am doing wrong.
  6. Subnet Mask

Thanks Everyone for the input, I did try the changing the subnet masking on my laptop and that did not work. I am not very up to speed on networking so I have drawn up a layout of Our networks and the different IP addresses, right now I have an issue where I would love to exchange Data between 192,168.1.213 and 192.1.17.15 just not sure the best way to make that happen. network.bmp
  7. Subnet Mask

3 seperate subnets, I want to try it Just dont want to cause some kinda collision that would shut the entire plant down...lol. I mean I know I'll be safe with IP not being a duplicate IP, but oh well what the heck may try it anyway tommorow. I'll be sure and Let You guys know
  8. Subnet Mask

at work we have a disarrayed plant network. Part of plant is 192.1.17.xxx part is 191.1.15.xxx part is 192.168.20.xxx and part is192.168.1.xxx We have all the different networks tied in to 1 router, so I am able to get online with anything in the plant from 1 desk. the issue is though I have to constantly change the IP address of programming computer (Using Free IP Switcher) depending on which system I want to get online with. My Question is could set the Subnet Mask on My programming computer to 0.0.0.0. and be able to connect to any IP range and without causing any problems ? Thanks
  9. 1791-16BC RIO Help

Thanks people but I think I got it....Duh I was looking at the wrong input word. drawings says its I:3.21/0-15 but its actually I:3.26/0-15
  10. have a control cabinet that has 2 1791-16BC RIO racks in it. one rack is spared out (no I/O being used) so now I am trying to use some of the inputs on this rack, if I turn on switch it shows up on the rack but the data isnt making it to the main PLC, it is tied in to the RIO (daisy chained with rack that is working) Com light on this rack is solid green. so I am confused as to why I cant get data from this rack.
  11. Ethernet Question

Thanks Ken That's Great Info. I did have one of the PF 700 drives that seemed to be the worst, in fact it got to the point where it would not reconnect even after a Cold Boot (power shut down and restart) so I changed that 20-comm-e out and I dont think it has lost cooms yet, I will check on the RX and Tx error counters though. Thanks Guys
  12. Ethernet Question

J.B. intended to thank You the other day for Your reply, but got hit with a breakdown (another issue) anyway thanks for Your reply, I will look into that switch to make sure it is indeed a switch and will post anyway findings that I may fall upon...lol
  13. Ethernet Question

Thanks Bob, thats interesting, I had contacted AB once about this issue or actually how I might be able to reset the drive without having to enter the electrical cabinet, so he first told me that Managed switches should have been used instead of unmanaged. anyway I may try disconnecting a couple of the HIMS and see if that makes a difference
  14. Ethernet Question

Need help please. I have to machines on different networks one being 192.168.20.xxx and the other being 191.1.15.xxx have them both hooked into a fiberoptic unmanaged switch and can get online with either network thru the fiber optic. The problem I may be having and I am not sure if this problem started after this was set up, is that some of My powerflex drives are getting DPI adapter faults. could this configuration with the 2 networks being tied together be causing network collisions ?
  15. 1794-IT8 and thermocouple help

The adapter and card are on the same power supply, I have cycled power but have not tried placing the controller in program then run. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, appreciate it.
